Mar-04-16 Browne vs Fischer, 1970 (replies)

peterh99: Where did Fischer first go wrong?

Mar-04-16 Euwe vs Keres, 1940 (replies)

peterh99: Keres is often called the strongest player never to have been world champion. Some say he was required to lose games to Botvinnik, the only player he had trouble with. Botvinnik was the poster boy for Soviet Chess, while Keres as an Estonian was suspected of anti-Soviet tendencies.

Mar-03-16 Fischer vs Spassky, 1972 (replies)

peterh99: I can't believe the guy who says Fine's book was bad because he was able to buy it for $2 at a yard sale! I'm sure works by Shakespeare, Plato, and Garry Kasparov show up at yard sales. Fine was a psychoanalyst and most people will not be interested in his psychological theories, ...

   Mar-03-16 Fine vs A Dake, 1933 (replies)

peterh99: It looked like Dake had the better game with his two bishops and mobile kingside pawhs but Fine just pounced and demolished his position with a quick brilliant combination.

Mar-01-16 Fine vs Alekhine, 1937 (replies)

peterh99: 4....Bb4+ does prevent the fianchetto as advertised. Keres has won some nice QGs after posting is QB on b2.

Feb-29-16 Bronstein vs Ljubojevic, 1973 (replies)

peterh99: I don't see that this is a great game but maybe that's my fault. Llubojevic appeared to be begging to be mated. Maybe he was trying to show off. Why couldn't white have won by 18. Bf6, N1d7; Qh6, NxF6; exf6, Qe5+; Ne4?

Feb-26-16 Keres vs Fine, 1936 (replies)

peterh99: I wonder what Keres hoped to achieve by giving up the pawn? Later, 46 e4 is a amazing coup as another commenter mentioned.

Feb-26-16 Rossolimo vs Fischer, 1966 (replies)

peterh99: Wonder why Ross didn't play NC3 or NE3 earlier instead of Qh6, and I wonder if he feared his Q could be trapped somehow after Qh6, Ng7; Ne3, f5? Also wonder why Ros didn't play the Rossolimo Attack?

   Feb-21-16 Capablanca vs O Bernstein, 1911 (replies)

peterh99: One of the commenters says Capa was probably lost near the end but gives no variations. Hmm.... Since many readers by now have engines, was Capa lost near the end, in the 'opinion' of these engines?

Feb-19-16 Tal vs Koblents, 1957 (replies)

peterh99: I'm just a club player but I have to applaud Koblents' defense. Even if he missed the best move here and there, who wouldn't? And he found a lot of resources to last as long as he did.
