I am a New Zealnder who currently lives in Penrith in Sydney's western suburbs. I have played club and tournament chess in both new Zealand and Australia. My FIDE rating as of August 2012 is 1746. As well as playing chess I am an historian by training and interested in chess history. I really enjoy reading about an dplaying ove rthe games of Bobby Fischer. In addirtion, Tartakower's witty chess sayings and recently enjoyed David Lovejoy's novel about him, Moral Victories. One of my wins (against Hamish Gold)made Game of The day here for 30 July 2012.

missionmankiwi: Thanks for reminding me of that win against Aram! He still plays at North Sydney. Nowadays I am living at Penrith and playing at Rooty Hill RSL Chess Club (both western Sydney).

   Aug-23-12 G Lane vs Nunn, 1980

missionmankiwi: Great commentary on this win by a young Gary Lane in his book on the Ultimate Closed Sicilian.

   Aug-14-12 J M Adams vs H R Gold, 1999

missionmankiwi: Thanks for the comments, folks. I completely agree with the Non-existent Knight.

   Oct-06-11 Janowski vs E Schallopp, 1896 (replies)

missionmankiwi: 12 Bd5 is very pretty!

   Oct-06-11 E Z Adams vs Torre, 1920 (replies)

missionmankiwi: Real game or not, it is still simply beautiful!

Oct-06-11 Ed. Lasker vs G Thomas, 1912 (replies)

missionmankiwi: Beautiful Q-sac beginning 11 Qxh7+. But Black's position was ripe for the picking on the K-side: Count the pieces (a la IM Gary Lane)

   Jan-30-09 Alan Grant Kerr (replies)

missionmankiwi: Grant Kerr played his early chess in Dunedin, New Zealand, and played for New Zealand at 2 Olympiads. He also earned some temporary fame when during the 1970s in Dunedin he and local player Aldous Skuja set what was then the world record for continuous 5 minute chess playing.

   Nov-19-08 J M Adams vs R Ong, 1977 (replies)

missionmankiwi: I made the bad mistake in this game (against an Otago University student from Malaysia) of letting him play a very sharp line I did not know beyond superficially, the Dragon, and responding with the very sharp Yugoslav Attack. I quickly lost material and then the ...Rxc3 ...

   Nov-18-08 R Nokes vs J M Adams, 1977

missionmankiwi: I remember this game well. I never got any play after Roger's bind following his 4 Qxd4 against my Sicilian. It was a slow but sure death. Never mind - Roger was (and is) much higher rated than I and is currently doing very well for New Zealand in the Olympiad at Dresden.

   Nov-11-08 J M Adams vs J Bolens, 2008 (replies)

missionmankiwi: A horrible swindle. I was completely winning! Not the first time that Johnny has done that to someone - not by a long chalk!
