Dec-16-07 Kamsky vs Shirov, 2007 (replies)

masig: When I study this game, the more I'm convinced that 14..g5 presents black solid winning chances. To wit, after 17.Nf3 17...Nf4, 18.Nxf4, fxf4 19.Qxe5,Qxe5, 20. Nxe5, Bxh3! forcing rook + pawn capture in exchange for two pawns if 19.Nxe5, Rg5 wins a piece better I think for white is

masig: <Eyal:> Shirov mentions in the press conference the possibility of <30.Nc3>... I came in shortly after this move and was quite surprised Shirov didn't opt for it. After 32.Nxd1, White will probably lose the pawn on f4 from ensuing 32...Nh5 but I'm not sure if Black wants ...

masig: GBKnight yeah by the 60th move it was already a draw. but white's Rb4 was a blunder..Ra7 or Ra6 would have kept Black king behind the f-pawn and White's King has better position..not to mention one pawn up.

masig: yeh, why not f4?..white is clearly a pawn up going to the end game

Jan-27-07 Shirov vs Aronian, 2007 (replies)

masig: still looks even after 53...Nc4+ 54. Kf4, Nxa3 55. Nh6, Nc4 56. Nxf7, a3 57. h5, ... Black needs two moves to promote the passed a pawn while White needs three for the h pawn. With white's Knight at f7, the passed h pawn is qood as a queen. Unless of course, Shirov's a ...

   Mar-04-05 Linares (2005) (replies)

masig: will Topa's 64. B4 have been a better move than Kxf3? It seems he had relinquish a stronger pawn formation at the end?

Mar-04-04 Radjabov vs Shirov, 2004 (replies)

masig: just thinking out loud..would it have been better had Shirov captured Knight with his rook (instead of pawn) on move 35? that is..35..Rxd4 if 36. Rxd4..then f3xg2! 37. Ke2..Bg4! 38. Kf2 exd4 39. Kxg2 d3 (position in Black's favor as subsequent Be2 takes white rook out of
