Congratulations to <percyblakeney>!

Four of us beat <Drawer>, the usual tournament winner.

I got my electrical engineering degree from Georgia Tech in Atlanta. I'm a member of Coastal South Carolina Mensa and usually play recreational chess with family, friends, occasionally at playchess and yahoo. My rating ranges from 1550 to 1850, although Fritz rates me too high at about 2000 Club Champion. I'm studying modern (last 30 years) games now, especially Kasparov, Anand, Kramnik, Topalov, Leko, Svidler, J Polgar, Kamsky, Ivanchuk, Seirawan, Onischuk, and younger players such as Radjabov, Karjakin, Nakamura, Koneru, and Cheparinov. All of my existing collections are based on individual players less than 50 as I noticed other's collections based on historic players or on openings.

<all> I cut and paste this from <cu8sfan>'s chessforum so we follow the same rules for Group A & B. I'd like to ask all participants of the prediction contest to read this post and follow these guidelines. Thank you!

1. Please post your predictions in this order: White - Black Result. Right: Naiditsch - Stellwagen 1-0
Motylev-Cheparinov 1/2
Vescovi-Jobava ½
Beliavsky-Koneru Draw
Carlsen-L'Ami =

Wrong:
Naiditsch 1 - Stellwagen 0
Motylev 1/2 Cheparinov

2. Please always write the full last name of the player. Right: Alexander Motylev - Ivan Chaparinov 1/2

Wrong:
Alexander - Ivan 1/2

3a. Please don't post "mass predictions"
Right:
Naiditsch - Stellwagen 1/2
Beliavsky - Koneru 1/2
Vescovi - Jobava 1/2
Navara - Smeets 1/2
Almasi - Lahno 1/2
Carlsen - L'Ami 1/2
Motylev - Cheparinov 1/2

Wrong:
Round One: All Draws.

This may look tedious and redundant but it only takes a couple of seconds to copy someone else's pairings and put a "1/2" behind each of them.

3b. If you want to write a mass prediction for all rounds you may do so but ask yourself what this will be good for. We have <Drawer> and will also have <Whiter> and <Blacker> so posting "I predict all draws for all the rounds" is not forbidden but doesn't make much sense, either.

4. If you don't plan to participate for the whole event please don't participate at all. One- or Two-round participants generate a lot of work and neither I nor they get something in return.

5. Please note that you must participate in at least one of the first three rounds. I will not accept newcomers after the first three rounds.

6. Enjoy!

larrewl: <cu8sfan> I would not call your predictions disasterous. You're only one point from first place.

larrewl: <NakoSonorense> I hope you have a great time in Mexico! You may beat me yet if I continue to make poor choices of captains. I've discovered that captains scoring negative points is not a good thing. :)

larrewl: Although I picked The Netherlands and Spain to lose in the 1/4 finals, I can't say I'm surprised about the loses to Portugal and France, two very good teams. I would not bet on either winning the next game. :)

larrewl: <VishyFan> You didn't notice that I was talking to <Jafar219>. I had read your email and also saw that the 1st two games of Aeroflot 2006 winner Baadur Jobava and the 1st three games of Kosteniuk were not included because they may have not been on the first 29 boards in ...

larrewl: Unlike my Japanese mother, I haven't watched much figure skating. Like her, I want Sasha Cohen and Shizuka Arakawa to win Gold and Silver. The sentimental favorite Slutskaya will probably do better than Arakawa and may win the Gold. A Japanese or American is likely to win the Bronze
