hermit druid: If black allows f4 with another move, is there ANY room for white to make a mistake? Especially with black's king cut off play...

   Jul-07-12 I Nataf vs Vachier-Lagrave, 2006 (replies)

hermit druid: According to the computer, the waiting move 29.h3! was actually winning for white. The idea would have been 29...Kg6 30.Rf7! and the king is awfully stuck. (or 29...Kg8 30.Be5!) Well, I don't understand all the computer lines, but it makes sense that white should have a win ...

hermit druid: <whiteshark> You do have some nice references here!

hermit druid: "I couldn't guess any of his moves." Looking at the game, it does make sense.

hermit druid: I'm sorry, but what are you calling "a boring draw" when it's move 17 and all pieces are otb ?

hermit druid: Yu is 2 years younger, at that age it counts.

   Feb-10-11 Y Yu vs Vachier-Lagrave, 2011

hermit druid: No, the position is not that clear. Black can win an exchange with 27.Rd4 Ra5 but then after 28.f4 Rea8 29.c4! b3 30.Kc1 Ra1+ 31.Kd2 Rxh1 32.fxg5 black's king is completely buried. But maybe 27.Rd4 Bxf3 28.Rh3 Bd5 29.Rxb4 f5! was an option, but it's razorsharp, even if I have a

   Feb-05-11 Vaganian vs S Siebrecht, 2007

hermit druid: Black's Nb8 moved 8 times in this game. Positional manoeuvring at its best.

   Jan-25-11 Smeets vs Vachier-Lagrave, 2011 (replies)

hermit druid: 29.Ree7 Rhe8 and black keeps a huge pawn up. The mistake was somewhere else, I guess.

   Jan-21-11 Vachier-Lagrave vs Giri, 2011

hermit druid: @paavoh of course it wasn't a miracle. But everytime black was holding, it seemed like it was only with some only moves on the way. Maybe 22.g5 and attacking on the g-file was the way to proceed for white, black's position might be holdable, but is extremely tough in practice.
