eatingcake: <Patriot> Yes, 32.Rxe7 bxc4 but then 33. Nd7+ Rxd7 34. Re8#

Jun-22-12 Romanishin vs Marjanovic, 1972 (replies)

eatingcake: I also found the 38. Bg8+ line and I'm quite proud of it. :) I agree that the puzzle is easier than yesterday's, but it's a rough categorization anyway and there's going to be a range of difficulties for a given day, as well as different things that different people find easy or ...

   Jun-15-12 M Piskur vs B Klein, 2012 (replies)

eatingcake: Ahhh! I was wondering why this was so easy, but in fact I dismissed the 30...Kh8 line quickly due to 31. Qh5, which looks like it's mating easily, and decided that ...Rg8+ wasn't a problem since I could go Kf1 "and it's not like ...Qd1+ works or anything". So, negative full point

   Jun-07-12 M Beinoras vs H Salo, 2009 (replies)

eatingcake: Like yesterday, I missed a key knight move near the end -- I saw the position up to 30...Kg7 but missed that 31. Ne7 both threatens Qg6+ and forks the enemy queen and rook. Looking forward to Sunday after a 7-8 move combination for Thursday.

eatingcake: <Phony Benoni> Yes, I considered the position after 11...Qb6 for quite some time but Nc4 never even occurred to me. :(

May-30-12 Kasparov vs Bacrot, 2000 (replies)

eatingcake: <rilkefan> I also came up with 39. e6+, but you need to see 39... Kf6 40. Bxh5 anyway. The game continuation wins more easily, though. Bit disappointed I didn't consider the e6+ idea in the 39. Bxh5 line.

eatingcake: I think that a puzzle is not necessarily easy just because the initial motif is a common one. The variations here aren't completely trivial and if someone automatically played moves like ...Nxh3, they'd lose a lot of games!

Apr-05-12 Velimirovic vs Csom, 1974 (replies)

eatingcake: 26. Rf1 was too hard to find for me, already four moves deep. Lots of potential forcing moves also obscured it a bit. Certainly wouldn't be able to play 22. Bxf7 OTB without seeing it all, though, since white has queen for rook at the end. I was thinking this was a bit hard for a

eatingcake: Hello everyone! I'm a long time lurker, first time kibitzer. For today's puzzle, I spent several minutes on 39...Nc3, but I couldn't find a way to make it work after 40. f3 h2 41. Nf2. Rc1 eventually popped out at me, but I missed 40. f3 h2 41. Nf2 Rf1, settling on 41...h1=Q ...
