I live in SW Ohio. I love the game of Chess, but have no time for tournaments or even being in a club (woek and kids keep me busy); thus no rating. is simply a source of intellectual stimulation for me. The puzzles are great as is the ability to review old games.

concreteengineer: Nice puzzle for Tuesday. I saw the solution almost immediately. This really drives home the necessity of watching the diagonals.

concreteengineer: Monday puzzles are the only good things about Mondays. It’s always fun to “get them”. I know they are easy, but good Chess is about recognizing patterns – even easy ones. I bet some people who say these puzzles are “too easy” miss similar situations OTB – I ...

concreteengineer: I actually got the correct move for a Sunday puzzle. Of course, it really only counts if you also get the followup and I did not see Nd7. But it is Sunday, and I'll take what I can get.

concreteengineer: Got this one quickly, but I agree with nimzoknight - I would not have seen it OTB - nor would I have made it to move 28 in this position. I like the puzzles based on the older games as they usually play out to mate or close enough that you can clearly see the end. With some

concreteengineer: Wow, W, T and F puzzles have all been tough. Like many, I looked for the Q sac, but couldn't see one. It seems that, like others, I was looking for a move which would lead to mate. However, since the theme this weeks seems to be "win a piece", I should have considered that.

concreteengineer: I got the queen sac and the idea of using the rook to check the king, but totally missed the castle as a way to get the black rook. Great move! I probably missed it because I rarely castle queen's side. I do agree that Black should have continued on at least a few more ...

concreteengineer: Really easy, even for Monday. But this game shows that sometimes even the best miss the obvious.

concreteengineer: What a surprise! I got a Thursday. I saw Qf1 rather quickly once I saw that Rh3 was mate. The problem was following what would happen if 36. f3 …, until I realized that the knight defended g2 and that after Qxh1, a move by the king to f2 essentially blocks off the help ...

concreteengineer: Missed this one. After so many queen and/or rook sacs for the last few weeks, I kept looking for the sacrifice. Just goes to show, if your only tool is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
Mar-27-07 S Lorenz vs Andrey Orlov, 2001 (replies)
concreteengineer: Got this one rather quickly, just like yesterday. For those who complain that Monday and Tuesday puzzles are too easy, remember not everyone is a highly rated player. When I first started looking at, I couldn't even get Mondays! Now I get Monday and Tuesday ...
