I really like chess and I play it occasionally on yahoo and with my friends, but I've never actually played it professionally due to school and other activities.

Xuorarch: 17.Qf5 should be played, not 17.Qh5... 15.Rxg7+ Kxg7 16.Qg4+ Kh8 17.Qh5? f5 18.Bxf5 Kg7 and Black's king escapes via f6.

Xuorarch: 10...Bxf2+ 11.Kxf2 Qe7 (or e6) 12.Ng5? Qxf6+. White must move the king.

Xuorarch: I think 8.Be3 is a pretty good alternative. 8.Be3 Ng6(forced I think) 9. Bc4 Now if 9...Ne5, 10. Nxe5 Bxe5 11.Bxf7+ Kxf7 12. Qh5+

   Jan-22-08 Skembris vs S Mariotti, 1981 (replies)

Xuorarch: I think 13...Qe7 is an interesting possibility. 13...Qe7 14. Bxf4 exf4 but now white can't develop the knight because of Rh3, and black threatens Qc5. In fact I see a Qc5 fork in several lines if white loses the dark squared bishop. e.g. 14. Ne2 Ne6 15. Ng3 Nc5 16. Nxc5 Qxc5. ...

Xuorarch: Oops, got the numbering wrong, but thanks for the info.

Xuorarch: How can there be no comments on this game?

Apr-04-07 Short vs Sax, 1988 (replies)

Xuorarch: THE pawn was probably just saying that because he thinks the pun is absurd, not because it offends him. It's not like he's given the pun the litany you've given him. But I guess it is a convenient way to express your superior vocabulary and moral standpoint, not to mention ...

   Jan-25-07 I Akimov vs V Kazakov, 2001 (replies)

Xuorarch: Um, I might be missing something, but why does Black play 12...Bd3? Was he looking at the board upside down?

Jan-22-07 Matulovic vs Asfary, 1972 (replies)

Xuorarch: After 22...Qd7, White can just do 23.Qf6 (threatening mate), where 23...Nxf6 24.Nxf6+ creates a windmill that wins White two pieces. If 23...g4, then 24.Qh8+ Kg56 25.Qxg8+ Kh5 26.Nf6+ Kh4 27.Bf2#. I really can't find Black's response to 23.Qf6.

   Jan-14-07 A Nickel vs H Gnirk, 1986

Xuorarch: Wow. Apparently, e6 really is tricky in this defense, though I have to say that Black made a number of questionable moves here, leaving lots of weak spots.
