   May-12-11 Denker vs H Avram, 1940 (replies)

Veroth: Bah JimFromProvidence beat me to it. Still, it's nice to know that given 20+ trial and error approaches, I found something Rybka likes. ;)

Veroth: I was with Benjinathan - could not see the advantage (missed that the white king could get to the c-pawn first), so was content with Qxa6.

Jan-04-10 Greco vs NN, 1620 (replies)

Veroth: Toughest Monday puzzle I've seen yet. Could not see how it was winning if black declined the bishop.

Veroth: Heart-attacks while resting/asleep CAN be a symptom of EPO use. There were documented cases of cyclists dying in their sleep back when EPO use was first on the rise. Obviously, I have no idea what happened to Jarque, and I certainly hope it was not drugs.

Veroth: I completely do not get 20 ... Kxh7, and would be shocked to see it played on the board. e8 and d7 are calling for the black king. 20 Bxh7 is certainly white's best move, and Bxg7 is an obvious possible followup, but I hardly expect black to walk into it with Kxh7.

Veroth: The bishop on d7 is huge, isn't it?

   Aug-16-07 Carlsen vs P Nikolic, 2005 (replies)

Veroth: I really expected black to answer with 21 ... Qf4. Funny how vital the white rook on A4 is to the puzzle....

Veroth: Liverpool not scoring? Sounds like all's right with the universe. :(

   Mar-30-07 D Vasiesiu vs G Szabo, 2001 (replies)

Veroth: One line to consider in response to Nd5 is Rxb2. Kxb2 allows Qb7! and Qb5. While this saves the queen, I'm not convinced that black saves his king this way. Of course, white could and probably should answer Rxb2 with Ka1. Any further checks by the rook will allow immediate ...

Veroth: I, also, checked in but did not kibitz.
