The Careful Cat: Hi DanRoss53
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.c3 Bc5 4.Nxe5 4...Bxf2+ 5.Kxf2 Nxe5 6. d4 Qh4+ 7.K g1 Nc6 Not having played any games with this (either colour) it is hard for me to say who has the best of it but... I like White's pawn centre and his two bishops in an open position. The ... |

Jan-12-06 Alekhine vs K Junge, 1942
|
The Careful Cat: Calli: Why not 23...Rxd1+ 24.Rxd1 Nd7 stopping f6?
25.Qd2 looks strongest. On 25...Nf6 then W dominates the d-file and Black's queenside is vulnerable after Qd6. 25...Nc5 26.Bc2 and some dangers remain on the kingside. (With a little help from Fritz :-)) |

Oct-03-05 Alekhine vs Euwe, 1932
|
The Careful Cat: I was making a little study of the 5...g6 variation of the Panov- Botvinnik attack in the Caro-kann. First game up I find whopping big mistakes by BOTH these former world champions!! Fritz backs up my view.
White's 20Nd8?? and even worse Black's 24th...h5?? leaving a rull ... |

Aug-14-05 Tarrasch vs K Eckart, 1890
|
The Careful Cat: This game has some historical significance in that it is a very early example of Tarrasch himself using the Tarrasch variation of the French. It is an energetic and smoothly played game by Tarrasch but I feel certain that 16.Rd1 is MUCH better, exploiting Black's awkwardly ... |

Aug-13-05 A Nimzowitsch vs Duras, 1912
|
The Careful Cat: At Black's 46th move he resigned. Should Black have resigned here? I can't find a clear win and neither can Fritz. Can anyone demonstate the win for White?
Many thanks. |

Aug-03-05 Morphy vs A Morphy, 1848
|
The Careful Cat: What strikes me about this game is the surprising way that Morphy abandons the centre so freely by 3.exf5. I had always thought Morphy was a lover of a strong pawn centre. Surely 3.d3, holding his central position was much better. |

Jul-19-05 Anderssen vs Harrwitz, 1848
|
The Careful Cat: Hi bumpmobile,
Queen killer:Rxa7 strays a little from white's intention Isn't it much clearer than that?
After 23.Rxa7 Black plays 23...Qb8 hitting both the Ra7 and the Pb2 thus regaining the pawn. |

Jun-09-05 Tal vs Leonov, 1949
|
The Careful Cat: Hi,
With a little help from Fritz I have been able to do some convincing analysis. 19.Rf6! now 19..gxf6 is best met by 20.Bxh7+!(removes a key defender of the crucial f6 square)...20...Kxh7 21.Ng4 Qf8 forced else mate follows very soon. 22.Rf1 now, to prevent the WR landing |

Apr-12-04 Nimzo-Indian, Classical (E32)
|
The Careful Cat: Hi All,
I only play the Nimzo very occasionally but according to my database in the "4.Qc2 O-O line" White definitely CAN play 5.e4. It is in fact the best line, scoring 57%. What is putting players off, apparently, is the doubled c-pawns after 5...Bxc3 6.bxc3. Good luck! |
