Nov-26-18 Caruana vs Carlsen, 2018 (replies)

Severin: Unimaginable that Carlsen drew here. Up thirty minutes, 9 moves from the time control. A position that anyone can see is superior, albeit not yet decisively so. The final game of an even championship match. And you decide to draw the game? He didn't even pretend to care about the ...

Nov-26-18 Carlsen - Caruana World Championship Match (2018) (replies)

Severin: When two classical world championships in a row are decided by rapid games, that championship is no longer legitimate. When a world champion gives up as his opponent has 8 minutes to make 9 moves and his position is stifling, he is no champion. I've never been angrier about the ...

Jun-03-18 So vs Carlsen, 2018 (replies)

Severin: 16. ... Nxa3 is the kind of error Carlsen's opponents usually make. Small positional disadvantages that add up over the game. 22. ...e5 is kind of a clever trick to simplify the position, but not one a GM would fall for. Wesley doesn't have to take the pawn right away, and then it ...

Apr-23-18 Carlsen vs Wojtaszek, 2018 (replies)

Severin: 17. Nd5 is a very cool sac/computer line that can initiate a killing attack. 17. ... exd5 18. exd5 kf8 19. dxc6 if 18. ... Nd8 19. Bg4 Rb8 20. Qd3 Rh6 21. Bxg7 Rg6 22. f5 Rxg7 23. f6 Rxg4 24. Rxe7, and black loses the Queen. Really complicated and a lot of variations (altho white

Mar-26-18 World Championship Candidates (2018) (replies)

Severin: Wow, one more round and 3 guys are still fighting for first. Definitely the most exciting tournament in a while. Can't see anyone beating Magnus, but I definitely think Caruana deserves the shot the most. Karjakin was the one I wanted to win the least, so this is a good day.

Mar-16-18 Caruana vs Grischuk, 2018 (replies)

Severin: Magnus would never offer draw here. That's why he's the champion.

   Jan-27-18 G Jones vs Mamedyarov, 2018 (replies)

Severin: This proves Mamedyarov will go nowhere in the candidates, despite the increase in his rating. Champions don't just roll over when they could win a tournament.

   Jan-24-18 A Tate vs Nakamura, 2018 (replies)

Severin: Well that was something

Dec-10-17 Carlsen vs Nepomniachtchi, 2017 (replies)

Severin: 25. Bxh6 wasn't all that hard, and especially should have been easy for Magnus. And then the whole sequence following 31. Nc6 ruined him. Really not his year. He keeps missing tactics and getting into lost positions.

Dec-04-17 Aronian vs Karjakin, 2017 (replies)

Severin: Karjakin channeling the spirit of Anish Giri in this masterpiece
