   Feb-06-19 M L Hanauer vs Schoenberg, 1938 (replies)

Robert Samuels: Thanks, <Granny O Doul>, that's certainly possible. Schonberg would have been a 23 year-old grad student in 1938. I still wonder which Scho(e)nberg it was. It's not the composer of Les Miserables, anyway.

   Apr-19-18 S Gupta vs Atharva Bhajne, 2008

Robert Samuels: Not bad for a five-year-old.

Robert Samuels: I hope they're following my blog: https://chessandmusic.wordpress.com

   Mar-10-18 M W Healey vs G J Moore, 2017 (replies)

Robert Samuels: A great game, one of my favourite openings, and I was actually playing in the same tournament (in a much lowlier division) at the time! The players are both Brits -- Michael Healey has a FIDE grade of 2141 and Graham Moore one of 2187. The game was played in my local ...

   Oct-24-17 C Bauer vs S Feller, 2016

Robert Samuels: 24.Bb7!! is an impressive "empty square" sacrifice to decoy the c8 bishop.

   Mar-21-17 M Godena vs C Garcia Palermo, 2014

Robert Samuels: Given as a main line after 4...d6 in "Winning with the slow but venomous Italian". The authors suggest 18.g4! as a crucial improvement.

Mar-18-17 Giri vs Anand, 2015 (replies)

Robert Samuels: One of the demonstration games in Muller and Souleidis, "Winning with the Slow (but Venomous!) Italian. Anand's error is 24...Qd6 (24...Nh5=).

   Mar-03-17 H Bogart vs NN, 1933 (replies)

Robert Samuels: You're right, <offramp>. NN is probably the most famous player of all time.

   Feb-23-17 S Franklin vs R Norinkeviciute, 2007 (replies)

Robert Samuels: And it's a British game, too! Not bad for a 13-year-old.

Jan-19-17 Caruana vs Radjabov, 2016 (replies)

Robert Samuels: What I admired most were the pawn advances 22.h4! and 23.h5! apparently giving up two pawns, but actually preparing the decisive invasion of the kingside, plonking the knight on f6. That vision at move 21 is what sets up the brilliancy that ends the game fifteen moves later.
