Poohavez: <Sneaky> <Lemma 1. All horses are the same colour> That's the famous one!!! I also always liked: Show that if x belongs to the empty set, then x is a green-eyed lion. (Royden, Real Analysis, problem #2)

Poohavez: <Calli> Oh my ears and whiskers!!! I will be back!

   Jul-10-04 W D Evans vs McDonnell, 1827 (replies)

Poohavez: <chessgames.com> Order of moves seems to be incorrect. I have only second-hand sources but they all give 4.0-0 d6 5.b4 Bxb4 6.c3 Ba5 and the rest as here. For example, see www.chesscafe.com/text/kibitz89.pdf This is also in accord with the standard claim that it was ...

Poohavez: Neat fortress in R+p vs B!!!

   Jul-07-04 Marshall vs H Wolf, 1905

Poohavez: Simplest possible endgame played wrong!!!! Only tremendous bluder by Wolf (59...Kf6??) allowed Marshall to keep .5 point. White, of course, doesn't have a fortress here. Should have been 59...Ke6! (keeping opposition) and if 60.Kf4 then 60...Kd5 61.Kg4 Ke4 or if 60.h5 then ...

Poohavez: <sneaky pete> Thanks for info. I hope <suentues po 147> wont mind me answering on his behalf:) He is looking for info in which round Petrosian played whom. His original post is in Kibitzers' Cafe.

Poohavez: <IMlday> <I suppose I should spell it like 'Chigorin' even though tch and ch are seperate letters in Russian> There is no letter 'tch' in Russian, of course. It sometimes used to represent the same sound as "ch", mostly because of French, I guess. "Chigorin" seems to be

Poohavez: <Gypsy> These two games are only cases that I know. I will try to find some nicely-played ones.

   Jun-29-04 Gossip vs E Gilbert, 1879 (replies)

Poohavez: It seems it should be "Mate in 37". White has two tiny improvements in the Steinitz-approved variation above: 61. Kd3 Kd5, then the moves 61-63 from above, which become moves 62-64. Now 65. Kc4 Kd2, and then the remainder of above, which becomes moves 66-78.

Poohavez: <acirce> Thanks, I have not intended to be sarcastic:) I thought that those two were some young chessplayers and searched chessgames.com but failed.
