Pi Guy: Spent a while trying to make 51. Qh7+ work. When I couldn't find anything, I looked at 51. f8=Q+ instead. I saw that after 51... Kxf8 52. e7+ Ke8, there was no way to save the e7 pawn - 53. Qb5 was the only realistic try I could come up with but 53...Rfc6 left me without any moves ... |

Pi Guy: <Shadout Mapes> After 22...Qxe6 23. Bg6+ Kf6 24. Bb2+ Ne5, the bishop on c8 defends the black queen. Not necessarily ideal play for white, but I'm guessing the line you missed was something similar to that. |

Pi Guy: I realized what "In Closing" meant really early on, then wasted some time examining things like "phiheaf" and "yolshfa" - not surprisingly, neither are words (I was trying to look at each line individually and matching them to individual words in the closing). |

Pi Guy: Any time I can't solve a puzzle, I just say it's a spoiler, get it wrong, and move on with my life. I'm alright with that. FINALLY, I felt like I had one worked out completely: every possible defense for black and a counter to every one of those defenses for white...and it was a ... |

Pi Guy: Either I'm too stupid to understand this or it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Since I don't have much of a background in this kind of thing, I'll assume I just don't uderstand it, but I do have a couple of questions: <2: an n dimensional point is an object in which all ... |

Nov-25-07 Y Gusev vs E Auerbach, 1946
|
Pi Guy: Great game. From move 29 on, black has a queen for a bishop, but unfortunately, his rook was completely trapped and the queen was limited to the back rank and the a3-f8 diagonal!
Finally, after all the excitement of the middlegame, the deciding factor was 2 separate undefended, ... |
