   Jul-04-13 Marshall vs H Wolf, 1906 (replies)

Old King Cole: At the end, a seesaw checking pattern is threatened (a key point being g7), perhaps hence the pun. In the middle, 20 Qh5, with its combination, is grand, classic Marshall. Earlier, 10 ... c4 is avoided.

Jun-09-13 Bondarevsky vs Boleslavsky, 1941 (replies)

Old King Cole: Pawn muscle is seen in this game where Bondarevsky beats Boleslavsky.

   Apr-06-13 B Fleissig vs Zukertort, 1882

Old King Cole: Good game by Fleissig over Zukertort, including his 16 f4, plus 25 Ne6 which if accepted brings a BRM involving the bishop. The following play is good, too.

Apr-06-13 Mackenzie vs Winawer, 1882 (replies)

Old King Cole: 22 ... Kg2 could have perhaps foreclosed defense of h2, as by Black's Re7, were White (owning a Queen) then to bring rooks to the open h-file. But that is my impression.

   Apr-01-13 Mackenzie vs Blackburne, 1883

Old King Cole: Classic Zugzwang by White, as no Black piece can move but the rook, but it must stay blocking the d-file pawn which can discover check.

   Mar-13-13 Anderssen vs J Heral, 1873 (replies)

Old King Cole: A swindle by Heral.

   Mar-13-13 M Fleissig vs Paulsen, 1873 (replies)

Old King Cole: Classic bishops of opposite colors ending for most of the game, though one wonders about White's 70th move (a zugzwang?)

   Mar-13-13 Paulsen vs M Fleissig, 1873 (replies)

Old King Cole: Were there no resignation and a liquidation of pieces at e1, White's King, to win, would have to go baseline and skirt the board clockwise on its edge, Black's meager central pawns being that strong. (Black's King can ward off White's central passed pawn.)

   Mar-13-13 S Rosenthal vs M Fleissig, 1873 (replies)

Old King Cole: A win hammered out the old fashioned way.

   Feb-12-13 A Karklins vs A Dunne, 2004 (replies)

Old King Cole: Xen ... I think you're right.
