   May-10-09 Shirov vs G Guseinov, 2009 (replies)

NguyenVo: I feel 10...b6 was too slow for the position. The only purpose of it was to develop the bishop to b7 and that could have been accomplished with the standard a6, b5 push which would have put more pressure on White's queen side as well. Later in the game Black did indeed opt for this

   May-10-09 V Gashimov vs Anand, 2009 (replies)

NguyenVo: In my opinion the whole plan starting with 15.Nf5 was dubious for White. While it did create a superficial pawn weakness at f5 (which actually improved Black's control of the e4 square later), White was forced to trade Queen a few moves later and entered a mid-late game where his ...

   Nov-20-08 Dresden Olympiad (2008) (replies)

NguyenVo: I've been following the Vietnamese chess team closely since the beginning of the Olympiad and I'm glad to see them doing well. Tomorrow's match against China will be another tough test for them.

   May-08-08 I Cheparinov vs X Bu, 2008 (replies)

NguyenVo: I think 27...d5 loses a pawn due to 28. Rb5. If black takes 28...de4 then 29.Re5 takes a pawn and forces black to protect the bishop and thus loses another pawn.

   Apr-18-08 K Burger vs P Keglevic, 1977 (replies)

NguyenVo: I thought h6 was a very intuitive move. Apart from his queen, Black doesn't have any piece that can guard the dark squares (particularly g7). The two rooks and the light bishop are essentially useless in this situation. All white has to do was making sure the black queen cannot get

   Apr-17-08 Gausdal Chess Classic (2008)

NguyenVo: Kaidanov has an interesting way of battling B33 Sicilian. He makes it look technical and straightforward.

   Sep-30-07 H Wang vs R Antonio, 2007

NguyenVo: This game seems like an improvement from his defeat by Megaranto in earlier round.

   Sep-30-07 P Zhang vs M Al-Modiahki, 2007

NguyenVo: Mr.Pengxiang seems very aware of pawn structures.

Sep-27-07 Ed. Lasker vs B Winkelman, 1926 (replies)

NguyenVo: A very pretty combination.

   Aug-05-07 B Suhle vs Anderssen, 1859 (replies)

NguyenVo: Wow, a Modern Variation game played in 1859. This must have looked quite strange back then.
