   Apr-19-25 Pillsbury vs Magagna, 1902

Granny O Doul: One night on the old ICC, I was playing 1 0 vs. that guest who pretended to be Fischer. One game debuted 1. e4 f5 2. exf5 Kf7 3. Nf3 Kf6 4. d4 Kxf5 5. Ne5 Kf6 6. Bg5+. The joker did win most of the time, but this was a bit too much, even for "Ass-am-a, from Brooklyn".

   Apr-19-25 G Thomas vs E Klein, 1946

Granny O Doul: Glad George learned something from his game with Vera Menchik: Menchik vs G Thomas, 1932 . I had no idea they had played so often; 17 games in the database and 7-6 in her favour, with four draws. His name looks odd without the "Sir". I thought first of the Rock of Chickamauga.

   Apr-17-25 Reykjavik Open (2025)

Granny O Doul: "Hans and Fritz" would have been the obvious joke if the cheating scandal had occurred thirty years ago.

   Apr-16-25 B Sinka vs M Tortarolo, 1984 (replies)

Granny O Doul: Her 41st looks odd; why not check the king back first with 41. R2d5+? I'm going to guess she'd been short of time and wasn't sure she was now past the control.

   Apr-15-25 L Loewenton vs P Potemkin, 1924

Granny O Doul: Earlier, after 52. Ra6(?), Black missed the trick...Be4+!, winning, though he still has to find moves; 53. Ke3 Bxg2! 54. Ra2 Bd5! 55. Rd2 Nb4!

   Apr-13-25 Spassky vs Fischer, 1972

Granny O Doul: I was told by a one-time chess acquaintance who had followed the live commentary at the Marshall, that round about move 15, Edmar Mednis was explaining that Fischer had been completely outplayed thus far, with a4 and a5 in the offing.

   Apr-12-25 Short vs R J Miles, 1976

Granny O Doul: This game popped up on my Facebook feed just a while ago, but as often happens I could no longer find it once the page refreshed. Since the very next lichess game I played rather echoed it, I take the liberty of posting here instead to give proper inspirational credit: ...

   Apr-06-25 K Shirazi vs A Soltis, 1988

Granny O Doul: The pin-breaking 33...Qe5! would have raised decisive back-rank issues, while the obvious (if your flag is not hanging) 40...Qf1+ was an immediate game-ending chance. White's final error is 67. Kc3, letting Black improve his rook, which evidently would have been a good idea at

   Apr-01-25 Bernard Zuckerman

Granny O Doul: Possibly due to April Fool's Day. It might be taken wrong if it were somebody new.

   Apr-01-25 Kaidanov vs A Hoffmann, 1992 (replies)

Granny O Doul: Since the game did apparently end at just this point, I'm going to guess that 32. Ra7 was actually played.
