GilHamilton: <thatsmate> Black can respond with 26. ... f6, which defends the bishop and takes a critical tempo away from white by threatening the queen. White has to back down, and is now at a material disadvantage.

GilHamilton: So, is 45. ♖e8+ ♔h7 46. f6 feasible here? Can I gloat over my masterful puzzle solving abilities? </irony> :)

GilHamilton: Hi, I'm new to chessgames.com and a total patzer... :) 26. ♔h1 removes the threat of a pin on the g-pawn when the bishop moves away. But, would 26. ♔f2 have changed the outcome of the game? Was white's position lost before move 27?
