Was taught to play by my mum, and got to play my Maths teacher, Mr Dodd, every Wednesday dinner time. (Hence the user name!) Played at university, then stopped when I had a child. My son got to be seven and started playing himself, started getting good at eight. Taught my husband to play just over a year ago, and now the whole family plays. My son is now playing for his county team.

Dodd: Oh, and in honour of St Patrick's day, maybe we could have the annnotated Beckett game to play through? I remember trying to play through it in sixth form once - not the best place for analysis! Anyone else seen Endgame? If the blindfold king trying to order his few remaining pieces ...
   Mar-16-06 Alekhine vs A Stephan, 1925 (replies)
Dodd: That is a lovely game! I love the exposed check when he moves his d pawn forward on to d6, and the way everything falls apart for black from there. And the game is so short and sweet that I am sure it will help imprint the opening on kids brains, since they should understand the ...
