Nov-14-12 Kharlov vs Krasenkow, 1997 (replies)

pogotheclown: I missed it today because the only move I considered was Rxf4 and I got stuck trying to make it work. Having looked at the game I really don't think much of 5.Na4 and I'm equally umimpressed with black's choice of 6..Nb6.

pogotheclown: Took me the same five seconds to solve as yesterday's problem.

   Oct-10-12 D Zagorskis vs J Michenka, 1994 (replies)

pogotheclown: I saw Bd4 straightaway but I interposed an unneccessary move to get mate. I went Bd4 Qxe2 Rxg7+ Kh8 and then I thought I had to attract the rook to F8 so I continued Rf8+ Rxf8 and then Rxg6 dis+. When I played thru I saw it wasn't necessary, just like the extra c in neccessary,

pogotheclown: Qd3? Dafuk?

   Sep-19-12 J Pelikan vs B Wexler, 1972 (replies)

pogotheclown: Did Pelikan slip Wexler a few dollars to play Rxh7?

   Jul-14-12 V Rocha vs R Barria Baker, 2006 (replies)

pogotheclown: White's play was totally negative from the start. Thoroughly deserved to lose.

   Apr-14-12 J Kaplan vs Bronstein, 1975 (replies)

pogotheclown: How is this difficult?

   Apr-12-12 A Mikhalchishin vs Shirov, 1988 (replies)

pogotheclown: Qxf5 was the first move I looked at and I didn't have to look for another. After gxf h6 black has not time to work up an attack or suck the white king into the open. Easy for a Thursday.

   Apr-08-12 A Sokolsky vs Kotov, 1938 (replies)

pogotheclown: I can't figure out why Kotov played Nc4 as opposed to exf. Black cannot win material on f3 because of Rb8+ but white ends up with an isolated pawn and his king is opened up a bit. Nc4 is just terrible.

   Apr-08-12 A Sokolsky vs Navrodsky, 1944 (replies)

pogotheclown: This was pretty easy for a Sunday. Often as not I don't bother with Saturday and Sunday puzzles because I have a pretty rigid definition of what a combination is and what a chess problem is and when I see solutions that a 15 moves long and not all variations given are forced ...
