Mar-22-12 Philidor Defense (C41)
|
The Finisher: Actually, I went and analysed this opening a bit and it is very suspect. The normal Philidor I mean, not the new one. Even when you survive the opening itself, there is compromise for no gain. |

Mar-22-12 S Knott vs Hodgson, 2000

The Finisher: What's wrong with 13.Bxc5? My line: 13.Bxc5 bxc5 14.b3. Looks reasonable. |

Mar-16-12 Queen's Gambit Declined (D51)
|
The Finisher: I tried to do this tonight, the Cambridge Springs.. his 4th move was Nf3. I thought that maybe I could still do it, but from experience I also know that is a recipe for disaster, continuing with the plan after a slightly different move (or even move order). It went the first 3 ... |

Mar-15-12 Queen's Gambit Declined (D53)
|
The Finisher: OJC, at first glance I thought 7.exd5 was a killer, but from my play it seems black goes a pawn up. Would be best if you pointed that kind of thing out. Don't listen to anyone saying traps are unsporting; traps in the opening are part of the sport. |

Mar-14-12 Scandinavian (B01)

The Finisher: Phony Benoni: <edbermac: 1.e4 d5 2.exd5 Qxd5 3.Nc3 Qf5> "I've never seen that, and it's not in the Openings Explorer. It does not look trustworthy--exposing the queen while blocking the effective development of the Bc8 and all that--but there appear to be some points as ... |

Feb-26-12 French, Classical (C14)
|
The Finisher: I lost in this line as white. Thought I had found my answer. No :( All the kids are playing e6. It makes no sense, as it is a very mature, solid, boring choice. I grew up with e4-e5, then everyone aped Kasparov (fair enough) with e4-c5. If I can't find an answer I will shift to |

Feb-15-12 G da Cutri vs Ruy Lopez, 1575
|
The Finisher: 10...d5 11.exd5 cxd5 12.nb5 Attack the Queen and force her to move. Its quite nasty.. if careless it's a family fork, if not, a Queen for both Bishops. White's pieces are well developed. The mistake would have been to keep trading and then comes the inevitable Qc3+ and taking ... |

Jan-28-12 B Nielsen vs Moller Jensen, 1926
|
The Finisher: Yes, I meant study the Bc4 one with Black moving Qh4+ (not this game here) but the normal way (with Nf3) you end up with Nf3, Bc4 and 0-0 with an open f-file.. so it would want to be good to shift from that. If you're going to use the Vienna to get a KG, why not just play a KG? |

Jan-26-12 Neo-Grunfeld Defense (D70)
|
The Finisher: I'm trying to find a forum for the actual Grunfeld, not the Neo Grunfeld. I tried to play it yesterday, but I think I got the move order wrong. But my opponent played 3.Nf3, instead of 3.Nc3. I think maybe I should have tried something different. Ever since I discovered the ... |
