DFelter: I'd like to see Ivanchuk get off to a good start. I think 3/4 would give him a great chance to win on Kramnik's turf. Round 7, Ivanchuk - Kramnik, should be a treat (hopefully). |

Jun-20-08 Shirov vs Grischuk, 2007
DFelter: Does anyone know where Shirov started to go wrong here? I'm intrigued by this 12.d3 line, and Grischuk takes this game into different territory than subsequent Shirov games vs. Leko and Aronian for instance. |

Jun-19-08 Karjakin vs Carlsen, 2008
DFelter: I'm really surprised with Karjakin's 1.d4. Was not expecting that, at all. I'm always curious what motivates a player to switch to a different opening move (unless it's a grand stage, like a World Championship match, and one hopes to shock the opponent). |

Jun-19-08 Pavel Eljanov
DFelter: Aerosvit turned out to be pretty good for Eljanov. His last place showing at Corus wasn't too promising (despite winning against Judit and Topalov), but his play in Foros has been solid. Perhaps it's comforting playing at home. |

Jun-19-08 Shirov vs Leko, 2008
DFelter: To be fair to Leko, Shirov had defeated Jakovenko and Karjakin at the World Chess Cup in this line of the Marshall, so Leko deserves some credit for stabilizing black's position here. Shirov is therefore forced to regroup and puts together an interesting game against Aronian in ... |

Jun-18-08 Aerosvit (2008)
DFelter: When trying to forecast Magnus's chances in a match with any top player, I like to consider his performance against Aronian during the candidates last May. That was pretty close, for the most part, and Magnus was just shy of 2700 at the time (Aronian was 2759). There's also the ... |

Jun-18-08 Fischer vs Mac Hack VI, 1977
DFelter: I've always been curious what the original source for these games is - it doesn't seem like anyone knows. Looking around the Web for a bit, I came across some text in Google Books, page 138 of Bobby Fischer: The Wandering King: http://books.google.com/books?id=Fb... Something is ... |

Jun-18-08 Peter Leko
DFelter: Susan Polgar posed a question to readers of her blog today, basically asking whether or not Magnus Carlsen would reach the proverbial "wall," referring to prodigies like Nakamura, Bacrot, and strangely Radjabov who have (in her opinion) hit a "wall." I hesitate to say that these ... |

Jun-18-08 Julius Finn
DFelter: Last summer I performed some research for Olimpiu Urcan, who has a bio for Finn in the works (with a reasonably sized game collection - many more than the ones here). Hopefully we'll be able to fill this section of the game database in the near future. Here's a link, via a ... |
