Ernani Santiago de Oliveira (* Curitiba; December 20th 1912 / + São Paulo;

July 3rd 1981)

Paraná State Chess Champion in 1945, 46, 47 and 48.

Quote <"Son of Tiburcio Carvalho de Oliveira and Camilla Santiago de Oliveira. Born on December 20, 1912, in the city of Curitiba. He graduated in law from the Federal University of Paraná, in 1937. As an educator, he served as director of the Ginásio de Palmas - Paraná; the direction of the gymnasium in Paranaguá, where he taught Portuguese; director of education in the so-called judicial government, chaired by High Court Judge Clotário de Macedo Portugal. As general director of education, he outlined important reforms in primary education: new education departments were he created; the Teachers' School, then transformed into an Institute of Education. Two new school groups were named: Julia Wanderley and Lisímaco Ferreira da Costa. In 1947, he was elected councilor and in 1950 he was president of the Municipal Council of Curitiba, having assumed the position of acting Municipal Mayor thanks to the removal of Mayor José Luiz Guerra Rego.
