Estonian biochemist and chess player, professor at the University of Tartu.

Udo Tarve started playing chess in his school days, in 1952 he became the Estonian school youth champion. Later, he won silver in the Estonian championships in 1956 and bronze in 1969, 1971 and 1972.

Tarve graduated in 1953. Tartu 1st Secondary School and the University of Tartu in 1959, had since 1963 until his death there in the same faculty, defended in 1976, a medical doctorate. 1965-66 trained at the Bratislava and 1969-70 University of Aarhus . He examined the ammonia effects of brain energy metabolism.

Udo remembers started Tarve school time, in 1952, he came to the Estonian school youth championship. Later, he won the Estonian Championship in 1956 and silver in 1969, bronze in 1971 and 1972. The end of the 1950s he belonged to both the Union-wide tournaments, as well as Estonia, Finland maavõistlustel Estonia squad. Tarve took part in the international tournament "Tallinn 1969" (12th-13th place). 1968 champion athlete."
