This funny story from Bill Wall was first linked and posted for chessgames on <Jul-03-12> by you :) Many thanks!

I've just (re)established a link to <chessmaniac> to 'cause the older from <chessville> doesn't work any longer

with best regards from Switzerland (reported that at the moment one out of seven members of the Federal Government 'Bundesrat' could play chess accurately)

perfidious: <Bad moves come in waves.>

This quote from <wwall> reminds me of the aphorism which went something to the effect that one should not discourage an opponent from making a weak move, as it is often the prelude to a still weaker one.

MissScarlett: Mr. Wall, you've claimed in an article, <Alekhine and the Nazis> that <In August 1939, Alexander Alekhine's brother, Alexei (1888-1939) was murdered in Russia.> What's your source for this?

  Sally Simpson: Happy Birthday Bill,

Day late I know but I was always in time trouble.

Will be joining you on 64 in June.

Me and Mrs...er...Simpson are going out to dinner that night, I have band lined up to sing 'When I'm 64'.

  Sally Simpson: Hi Miss Scarlett,

There is mention here by Tomasz Lissowski that Alexey may have been murdered in a love triangle.

  Sally Simpson: Hi Miss Scarlett,

Here, page 124, 'The History of Checkers', Pillsbury is listed as being in the top half dozen checkers players in America.

https://books.google.co.uk/books?id...

Pillsbury when given blindfold chess simuls often played blindfold checkers at the same time.

Hi Bill,

The famous Tarrasch quote:

"When you don't know what to play, wait for an idea to come into your opponent's mind. You may be sure that idea will be wrong."

Where did he say it? I do not have my Tarrasch books on hand at the moment.

May-11-16  wordfunph: Bill, Happy Birthday!

wwall: Thanks wordfunph. Now I am on Medicare. Is there something like that for old chess players? We get to take a move back once during a game or something like that?

Your massive piece of work and contributions have been copied and reproduced online by the chess community so many time - sometimes giving credit, sometimes not..

wwall: Thanks, all (including Frederick and Willy). I made it past Fischer's years at 64 and will now try to pass my old friend, Walter Browne (66), next. Not ready to retire yet. My wife still wants to travel and buy things. Otherwise, I would be doing more chess playing, chess writing, and contributing what I can at chessgames.com.
May-12-16  Jambow: Happy birthday Bill, just made 50 laps myself on the Quattro De Mayo.

  Sally Simpson: Happy Birthday Bill,

My wife too like to travel and buy things. So I send her to the corner shop once a day to buy my cigarettes.

But she's always game for a laugh.

Recently at a holiday camp she tried to enter an ugly wives competition.

They would not let her take part, they said she was a professional.

wwall: Geoff, you are the funniest. My wife got her credit cards stolen a few months ago, but I didn't report it. The thief is spending less than my wife. And in this country we have to deal with the firing of the FBI Director. My dad was an FBI agent and I worked for years with them in my job as Intel officer. From my contacts, I found out why Comey was fired. Apparently, he didn't stay at a Trump hotel when he traveled.
