Stockfish is an open source chess engine, developed by Tord Romstad, Joona Kiiski and Marco Costalba and licensed under the GNU General Public License version 3. The current version 1.7.1 (as of April 10, 2010) is available as C++ source code, and also has precompiled versions for Microsoft Windows, Linux 32-bit/64-bit and Mac OS X Snow Leopard 64-bit available. <HOUDINI 1.03> is scheduled to be released on July 15th so we may be only 5 days away from having an engine that is already(!) stronger than Rybka 4. |

 | | al wazir: I took a very cursory look at recent computer games. Based on that, I get the impression that Stockfish is the biggest, baddest fish currently swimming in the chess pond. (If I'm wrong, please correct me.) However, I found no Stockfish vs. Stockfish games in the database. This may be because such games would run afoul of the <Chessgames.com> software, which was probably written with the idea that a game must be played between two different players, who necessarily have different names. But I think a Stockfish vs. Stockfish match of, say, 20 games would be very interesting, assuming that the two sides used identical computers and identical programs. If, for example, white won more often than black, that might be taken to suggest that the program's opening book is slanted in white's favor. Alternatively, it could be taken as an approximate measure of white's intrinsic advantage. Does anyone know if anything like this has ever been tried? |

| Nov-21-13 | | InfinityCircuit: <al wazir> There have been (literally) tens of millions of Stockfish-Stockfish games, if not more: http://tests.stockfishchess.org/tests Most are at very short time controls: 15 seconds or 60 seconds a side, with proportional increment. Of course, these aren't PGNs. But I'd encourage you to just run Stockfish against itself on your own hardware! I always find it fun to see. And Stockfish is the best at the moment, a stunning +11 =19 -0 in Stage 4 of nTCEC Season 2, including three wins over Houdini dev. |

| Jan-04-14 | | MarkFinan: <supertimchan> I have that droidfish DD. I find it easier to play against by adjusting its strength and playing time than I did with shredder where you go up in levels. I also used to reach about 12-13 and really struggle but I have had it much higher. Depended on how sharp I felt that month, or how busy / not busy I was. I kept having to re download shredder and start from level 1 again, every 30 days which was annoying because some months I wouldn't even get past level 10. Top app is droiders 😄 |

Droidfish is a cool app. But it lacks graphics. It works but sometimes I think we're like back in the old days. |

What level do you set droidfish on and what time setting, if you don't mind me asking?? I have it on 62% right now, and if im feeling sharp and in the right mood *and* I have the white pieces I beat it. I lose more than I win, but I do beat it pretty often. |
