PawnSac: which is probably why no traffic in here. all but novices solve on the front page and move on
Jul-19-25  SchwartzSpringer: Or 34. Nf6+ mates in 3.

Sally Simpson: I missed the Knight fork on d6 and went instead for the mate. I was more interested in White's name.

"Rellstab..Rellstab..." Why does his name ring bells.

Found it. My post is 11 years old but this position from Estrin analysing a Rellstab game was on my board in the 70's.

"White has a decisive attack." Estrin, but it is Black to play.

Jul-20-25  Walter Glattke: #3 1.Nf6+ gxf6 2.Qg3+ Kh8 3.Rxf8#
Jul-20-25  karik: I suspect that the black player was Lajos Steiner.
Jul-20-25  Alan McGowan: <karik> is correct; the game is in the Deutsche Schachblaetter 1937, p291.

Honza Cervenka: 34.Nf6+ would have been better. Apparently 32...Rb7?? was a blunder (32...Kf8 was the only viable option), though white with extra Pawn should be winning anyway.

noads4me: White didn’t make the correct forcing move which was Nf6+ as many have noted!
Jul-23-25  saturn2: Both Nf6 and Rxf8 work. The first brings mate the second a plus piece
Jul-24-25  Andrew Chapman: It's a nice puzzle to see that there is something better than Rxf8 (I didn't).

  PawnSac: Honza: Rb7?? ; Rf6!

no doubt.. a fatal weakening of the back rank. but as often happens, the solution may not be the best, but it wins.. which is why time stamps will be a welcome addition to the score. when the clock is ticking we often grab the first winning combo we see, and in defense.. a win is a win. times would also explain many choices

Jul-25-25  King.Arthur.Brazil: It seems easy: 34. Nf6+ (Kh8 35. Rxf8#) gxf6 35. Qg3+ Kh8 36. Rxf8#.

Sally Simpson: 34.Nf6+ still mates as it did 6 days ago.
