Feb-18-23  SChesshevsky: NA takes a tough beat here. But I give him props for playing the Dragon.

Facing f3 Yugoslav Attack variation, I'm still wondering how much experience he has with Sicilian Dragon setups.

As I did with him facing a Maroczy bind:

Kamsky vs N Abdusattorov, 2022

Wouldn't mind seeing him playing more Dragon's and having more success with it. But with a Benko Gambit in rd. 1 and now a Dragon, have to respect his variety.

If he wants to get experimental in a tournament of this calibre he really needs to do some thorough prep first.

NA thought for 23 minutes before playing the horrible, ugly 14...f6. Jeez, even the average club player would baulk at the idea of weakening g6 like that. These guys are super-talented so what on earth was he thinking?

His opening prep looked iffy against Nepo but he got away with it there. Paid the price here.

tamar: Playing unfamiliar openings, Benko and Dragon, appears to be Abdu’s plan for the Black pieces here.

It can work, but two blunders in two games is a red flag.
