 | | perfidious: As <CIO> et al did, I went in for 25.Qf2. A most curious Monday POTD, tho. |
Dec-05-22 | | Cheapo by the Dozen: I was on Team Qf2 as well.
Not sure why we all picked that over Qe1. |
Dec-05-22 | | Brenin: 24 ... b5 was a waste of time (or desperation?), but Black's position was hopeless by that stage. For example, even a sensible-looking defensive move such as 24 ... Rce8 loses to 25 Qe1 (or Qf2), followed by 26 Qh4+. |
Dec-05-22 | | Yogi Darwin: I joined team Qf2.
This is a Monday puzzle? |
Dec-05-22 | | Cybe: My type was 26. Be6. |

 | | Stonehenge: Maybe it's time CG put me in charge of the puzzles. Months ago I mailed them because I had a nice Monday puzzle. They made it a Thursday puzzle: H Koller vs C Di Caro, 2004. |
Dec-05-22 | | mel gibson: < Yogi Darwin: I joined team Qf2. This is a Monday puzzle?>
Yep - wait till you get to Sunday. LOL |

Dec-05-22
 | | ferrabraz: According to Hiarcs 15.1, 25. Bf7!! (mate in 20), 25. Qe1 (mate in 31) and 25. Qf2 (mate in 33) are better than 25. Rf5. |
Dec-05-22
 | | ferrabraz: Update: the same Hiarcs 15.1, after a few more seconds, prefers 25. Rg6 (mate in 10) and finds out that 25. Bf7 is mate in 13 |
Dec-05-22 | | Chessius the Messius: I had Rg6, thought I missed it haha |
Dec-05-22 | | Chessius the Messius: PS obviously the idea is Bxg6 f5+ |
Dec-05-22
 | | pittpanther: I went with Qf2 which seems to win pretty handily. Does not seem to be a true Monday puzzle (or my puzzle abilities are rapidly diminishing!) |
Dec-05-22 | | Cellist: I saw that 25.Qf2 was likely winning, but it did not seem to be the answer to a Monday puzzle. I checked out 25.Rg6+ and came to the same conclusion (likely winning but too complex for a Monday, especially if Black declines the sacrifice). I then settled for 25.Rxf5. After 25.... Qxf5, I wanted to play 26.Be6, which also wins clearly: +21.43 (22 ply) 26...Qh5 27.f5+ Kh7 28.Bg8+ Rxg8 29.Qxe7+ Kh8 30.Qxf6+ Kh7 31.Rg6 Rxg6 32.Qf7+ Rg7 33.Qxh5+ Kg8 34.Be3 b4 35.f6 Rf8 36.fxg7 Rf1+ 37.Nd1 Kxg7 38.Qe8 a5 39.Bd4+ Kh6 40.Qe6+ Kh7 41.Qe4+ Kh6 42.Be3+ Kg7 43.Qg2+ Kh7 44.Qxf1 |

 | | chrisowen: Eulogy jazzy v it in cop Rxf5 v it a bluff frazzle it in accord jocky cc it axiom cc jie it in afford pad accomodate v it in mob about gloat aog jag Rxf5 eit c; |
Dec-05-22 | | Chessius the Messius: It's not a puzzle when half a dozen of moves are easily winning. But.. that's just my opinion 😁 |
Dec-05-22
 | | MissScarlett: Excellent position. <25. R1g4> also wins (is what I meant to say). |
Dec-05-22 | | Chessius the Messius: Maybe so, but since we have a battery, one should try to take fully advantage of it 😎 |
Dec-05-22 | | Chessius the Messius: I meant "full", obviously 😽 |
Dec-05-22 | | TheaN: <25.Rxf5 Qxf5 26.Qxe7 +-> seems the most straightforward, threatening Qg7+ and 26....Nxd5? shows this in full: 27.Qg7+ Kh5 28.Rg5+ Kh4 (Rxg5 29.Qxg5#) 29.Qh6#. A lot of wins for White but not a typical Monday. |
Dec-05-22
 | | scormus: <Everybody> Monday, Monday, ..... |
Dec-05-22 | | Refused: I didn't pick either 25.Rxf5 nor 25.Qf2
I went with 25.Qe1, which does pretty much the same as 25.Qf2 |
Dec-05-22
 | | benveniste: Since it's Monday, I tried the Queen Sac first. Perhaps that was the point of the puzzle? |
Dec-05-22 | | jes47: Another vote for Qf2 |
Dec-05-22
 | | dheilke: Team Qf2‼ The ladder mate just seemed so obvious, that I was like - "That's a 1-star level brain word.. what's the word? Thinking!!! That's what you do with a brain, that has 1-star.. yeah, that's it. Monday....." |
Dec-05-22
 | | Breunor: Qf2 for me. |
