more. As it turned out, our analyses of of ...♔b6 was surprisingly accurate.
---- In the game, I conveniently forgot my analysis of ...♕d7; I had seen
the tactic I lost to 15 minutes before I forgot about it. ---- I don't
know the evaluation of this endgame and neither did my opponent, whether it
was a win or a draw. I would be interested to know. ---------- The games
that feature my most single move embarrassing decisions have often seemed to
make the published databases: (move 19 and 32 in this game --- re: move 19, I
realized the move f4 in the key variation while my opponent planned the
erroneous ♗g5.) ----- At the time I needed a win for the chance to qualify
for Millionaire Monday (to play for $40,000) --- as it turned out, surprisingly, a
win would not have been enough as , of the players who were a half point ahead
of me in my class section, most or all won their games. Only chess
considerations matter at the board. -------- I only scored 3.5/8 in my last
8 games of this tournament despite very promising positions in all of them,
including two losses and a draw in positions that should have been very simple
wins for many chess players. My blunders surprised me despite my relative
inexperience at long controls compared to every other player in the open
section (this was only my 2nd participation in a 9 round tournament in an open
section). I would estimate and like to think my two weakest games of that
tournament (besides my round 1 and 4 losses, and my round 9 win) were the ones
posted to this site. ------ My wins in round 5 and 2 especially were quite
nice though, even Stockfish was impressed especially by the latter game. One
of those wins (the former) deviated from a 2014 game between Caruana - Svidler,
where Caruana resigned about 5 moves after where my opponent deviated
(unsuccessfully and lost similarly) as I was amused to discover after the game.
Whereas in my round 2 game, I was pleased to discover that Caruana had
previously adopted the exact approach I used in the opening. Although in both
cases I was just making stuff up and was serenely oblivious to Caruana's
preferences as I am largely oblivious to his chess insights. ----- I
performed well in a few of the postmostems, where I managed to defeat my
opponents in behind-the-scenes variations in a few instances after the games.
I did not gain any rating points for this, but it was fun. ---- Thanks again
to the Santa Claus (es) for the premium membership and to the O♙ for his
interest in my chess play this game. (37... Rg5) 1-0 |
