Jan-23-14  Garech: My first ever IM scalp; I'm delighted chessgames have posted it. Thanks guys!

Jan-23-14  hms123: <Garech>

Congratulations. As a French player myself, I am thrilled with your win.

northernfox: Moi aussi. Felicitations. Vive la France!
Jan-23-14  Shams: Well done, Garech! Your Queen made an excellent blockader. :)
Jan-24-14  Garech: Thank you guys! Yes, I was happy indeed with the win. As you can see, it was a correspondence game, and I was going crazy working out lines! After winning the pawn I thought I might have something, but it was not easy to face the g file, and not obvious how to make progress. Thankfully, he went wrong, and the b2 weakness proved to become something significant.

  Domdaniel: Nice French, G.
Apr-12-14  Garech: <Domdaniel> Thanks; it was a very satisfying win, for sure - played over the course of a week, with a lot of headscratching, coffee and anxiety!

Domdaniel: <Garech> I'm envious: I've never beaten an IM or GM. I've beaten players who later made the IM title, and I've drawn with or beaten a few players rated 2200-2400 who didn't have a title. But there's nothing like actually beating a master.

BTW, I see you played Sean Galligan a few times. I've never played him, but he was top board on the Cavan team which I played for once in the 1970s.

Jun-16-14  Garech: <Domdaniel>

Are you for real, you used to play for Cavan? I play for Cavan now! Sean Galligan is now playing for Longford, I don't know why he switched allegiances. Are you still on the club circuit?

Domdaniel: <Garech> I'm for real, at least some of the time. After one match with Cavan in the 1970s (vs Inchicore, Dublin -- I won) I played for 4 or 5 Dublin clubs in the 1980s. Then I gave up chess for 15 years. Now I play for CCYMS in Cork.
Oct-21-17  Saniyat24: What a strong position and a beautiful pawn structure after 15...Nb3, very good middle game and a great fight for the g-file...nice sacrifice of the bishop to strangle the White King...very interesting game indeed...
