Kibitzer's Corner
Dec-10-13  Karpova: The game was played in the Vienna Chess Club.

Annotations by Sandor Takacs (condensed):

5.Qe2 <Immediate d3 is stronger as Charousch played*.>

6.d3 <Taking on e4 would not be good due to 6...0-0 with a, probably successful, Black attack on the e-file.>

8.Bd2 <8.e5 with possible continuation 8...Bb4 9.Bd2 Bxc3 10.Bxc3 Qxd5 with excellent attacking prospects for Black.>

11...Ra4 <!>

12...Bd7 <!>

17...Bxg4 <! Now the sacrifice is possible as the knight is absent. It would not have worked before as Wite could have adequately defended by 18.Rxa3 and 19.Ne2!.>

19.Rg1 <! The safest defense.>
