Jul-26-13  Nerwal: Houdini can say whatever it wants and mark 0.00 after 66... ♖f5, an endgame ♗ vs ♘ with pawns on both sides is never going to be an easy draw for the side with the ♘.

Bela was very unhappy with her king moves in this game. The plan with 74... ♔f4 75... ♔g3 76... ♔f2 gave white the opportunity of 77. ♗h5, altough it's a difficult move to find at the end of a long game. Then came 80... ♔e4 losing. The correct plan was to cement the ♘b2 preventing a4 by bringing the king close to it, with 80... ♔d2. Of course with little time it's not so easy to assess whether white can put black in zugzwang in this line. It turns out white cannot : 81. ♔b4 ♔c2 82. ♗c4 ♔c1 83. ♗f7 ♔b1 84. ♗g6+ ♔a2 (84... ♔c1 is the dreaded zugwzang after 85. ♔b3) 85. ♔h7 ♔a1 86. ♔b3 ♘d3!! and white cannot make any progress :

87. ♗xd3 is stalemate and 87. a4 ♘c5+ win the pawn.

But that's not the end of the story. There is the truth of the tablebases and then the truth of the chessboard. After 80... ♔e4 81. ♔b4 ♔d4 lost quickly to 82. Be2 and the ♘ is dominated, but 81... ♔e3 is very tricky and probably white would not have found the way as the win looks very difficult.

This is the third (!!!) freakin' time I have seen a knight <TRAPPED ON THE EDGE OF THE BOARD> in an innocent-looking endgame!!!

Unusual fortress where the Black King stays around the corner. The Night waits on the Pawn and toggles d3! if necessary to fork the Pawn (if a4). Stalemate after Bxd3 prevents zugswang.
