Chessical: A relentless game by Short who keeps his attack one step ahead of his opponent despite playing what seems to be an innocuous opening avoiding theory.

<11.a5> is an off-putting move, and the start of adroit manoeuvering as Short prepares to advance his Q-side pawns

After <14...Nf5> Black's game slowly starts to deteriorate. He obviously was playing to win after castling Q-side, but <14...f6> seems more solid as does <19...R(h)f8> 20.bxa6 bxa6 21.Rb1 Nxe5

Short sacrifics his <e> pawn to break through on the Q-side, and by move 22 Black definately has the inferior position.

Short gains control of the 7th rank and his nimble N's threaten to mate the constricted K. It must have been particularly enjoyable for Short to play <30.Ng5!> offering his Q; <30...Qxe2??> 31>Nf7+ Kc8 32. Rc7 mate. It is probable, however, that he would never have expected his opponent to take the Q and the sac was almost incidental to the strategic plan.

<37.Rc7+> also wins quickly

Aug-30-12  DanielBryant: At first, I wondered why White didn't play 35.Rxe3, but 35...Rxb5 seems surprisingly awkward for White.

Nice attacking game by Nigel. Black castled queenside and Nigel just opened up lines on the queenside and attacked the black king.

Nigel scores the only win for the team today as England beat Brazil 2.5 - 1.5

Aug-31-12  vonKrolock: <30 Qa2 31 Qa5 wins quickly also> 30.♕d2 (or ♕e1) are quicker, even quickest - due to the combinated attacks over 'a5' and 'g5')
Aug-31-12  Mudphudder: An english GM winning with the grand prix attack!
