GrahamClayton: 73...♖xf2 is the losing move, as after the rook exchange the Black king and knight are too far away to stop White queening either the h or d pawns.

FSR: Incredible that Black, having been gifted a piece, lost this game. After 21...Rxe2, White's position would have been resignable.

FSR: <GrahamClayton> I disagree. After 74...Kxg3 (creating a passed pawn) Black still would have been winning.

louispaulsen88888888: Correctamundo,FSR. Black could still draw with 76...Kt-K7ch!
Jun-03-20  Granny O Doul: Having made his job much harder by failing to capture White's king pawn at the proper moment, Fredericks perhaps was too eager to take it later.

He shows to better advantage here: https://www.newspapers.com/clip/266... , assuming of course that it's the same Fredericks.

FSR: <Granny O Doul> Forty-seven years ago Evans was writing about the First World Open organized by "the tireless Bill Goichberg." Amazingly, Goichberg is still around and the country's leading organizer. He just announced that this year's World Open will be online due to the pandemic! I have a hard time believing that will work out well. Even with players visible in Zoom, the opportunities for cheating are YUGE.

perfidious: <FSR>, have to think you are right about that; cannot see things coming off at all well.

louispaulsen88888888: I can’t see a lot of people entering. I myself would feel distracted playing from home.also, the fear of opponents cheating might scare people away, even if actual cheating might be hard to pull off.
