Jan-01-19  ChessHigherCat: Ms. Humpty Dumpty comes tumbling down after:

32...Ne3 33. Qf3 Nxd1

Happy New Year's All (if it's really new, it may be a fake!)

Jan-01-19  ChessHigherCat: Of course if 32...Ne3 33. fxe3 Qxe3+ 34. Kh1 Qxd3 and white's hanging on by a quickly unraveling thread.

Penguincw: Happy 2019 to those who are in 2019.

Hmm, I did get the puzzle, but it's a bit weird. Thought there would be more to it. Oh well.

1/1 this week, month and year.

Jan-01-19  Cheapo by the Dozen: Black is up a pawn. ... Ne6 wins the exchange unless the knight is captured. But if it is captured, Black gets and immediate pawn, and White's pinned knight turns out to be unsalvageable too.
Jan-01-19  Steve.Patzer: I saw that immediately.
Jan-01-19  stacase: Not your usual Queen sac Monday but easy enough.
Jan-01-19  Stale.Mate: Which is better 34. ... Qxd3 or Rxd3? Same?
Jan-01-19  SamAtoms1980: Bishops of opposite colors favor the attacker…… so start attacking.

32....Ne3 33.fxe3 Qxe3+ and 34....Rxd3 and it's pretty clear that Black is rolling.

Jan-01-19  Walter Glattke: Black has a pawn more and threatens Bxb2,
hence A) 32-.Ne3 33.fxe3 Qxe3+ 34.Kh2 Rxd3
A2) 33.Qe2 Nxd1 B) 32.Qxe3 33.fxe3 Nxe3 34.Qg3 Rxd3 lose C) 32.-Bxb2 wins. Happy New Year to all kibitzers.
Jan-01-19  saturn2: I saw

32...Ne3 33. fxe3 Qxe3+ 34. Kh1 Rxd3 35. Nf1 Qd4 36. Qe2 Bxb2 etc

Black is up 3 pawns and can clear off other pieces from the board.

Good luck for 2019.

Jan-01-19  mel gibson: I saw the first few moves quickly.

Stockfish 10 says as per below and it turns into an end game:

32... Ne3

(32. .. Ne3 (♘d5-e3 f2xe3 ♕a7xe3+ ♔g1-h1 ♕e3xd3 ♕g4-f4 ♕d3-e2 ♕f4-g4 ♖d8xd2 ♕g4xe2 ♖d2xe2 ♖d1-d8+ ♔g8-h7 b2-b4 ♖e2-e1+ ♔h1-h2 ♗g7-e5+ g2-g3 ♖e1-e3 b4xa5 ♖e3xg3 ♖d8-a8 ♖g3xa3+ ♔h2-g2 ♖a3-g3+ ♔g2-h2 ♔h7-g7 ♖a8-a7 ♗e5-d6 ♖a7-a8 ♖g3-a3+ ♔h2-g2 ♖a3-a2+ ♔g2-f3 ♖a2-h2 a5-a6 ♖h2xh3+ ♔f3-e2 b7xa6 ♖a8xa6 ♖h3-h2+ ♔e2-f3 ♗d6-b4 ♖a6-b6 ♖h2-b2 ♖b6-b5 h6-h5 ♖b5-b6 ♗b4-c3 ♖b6xb2) +8.87/37)

score for Black +8.87 depth 37

FSR: What the other guys said. Happy New Year!
Jan-01-19  agb2002: Black is a pawn up.

The white bishop is defenseless. This suggests 32... Ne3 33.fxe3 Qxe3+:

A) 34.Kf1 (to protect the rook with the king) 34... Qxd3+ 35.Ke1 Be5

A.1) 36.Ne4 Qe3+

A.1.a) 37.Qe2 Qf1+ 37.Qf1 Rd1+ wins the queen.

A.1.b) 37.Kf1 Rxd1 38.Qxd1 Qxe4 - + [b+2p].

A.2) 36.Nf1 Qxd1+ 37.Qxd1 Rxd1+ 38.Kxd1 Bxb2 - + [b+3p vs n].

A.3) 36.Kf2 Bxb2 - + [b+3p vs n].

B) 34.Kh1(2) Qxd3

B.1) 35.b4 Bc3 36.Qf3 Bxd2 37.Qxd3 Rxd3 wins the knight.

B.2) 35.Qf3 Qc2 will win the knight. Or 35... Qxf3 36.gxf3 Bxb2 followed by Bc3 (37.Rb1 Rxd2).

Jan-01-19  agb2002: Happy New Year to everyone!
Jan-01-19  malt: Have 32...Ne3 33.fe3 Q:e3+ 34.Kh1 Q:d3

And a Happy New Year !

Dionysius1: I like the puzzle. After the final position Black wins more Q-side pawns while White deals with threats to the pinned ♘d2. So it's more than just how to win the ♙f2
Jan-01-19  landshark: Good puzzle - more of a positional one and for instance, 34.... Rxd3 while tempting looks messy after 35. Nc4 - so there are ways to go wrong also. I stared at it for too long last night (go figure) and saw the right continuation but wasn't sure - it took the clear light of day for me to see it right, which is 34.... Qxd3 with the reasons given by <agb2002> etc. I think this is unusually deep for a Tuesday -
Jan-01-19  zb2cr: 32. ... Ne3 deploys a fork against the White Queen and Rook, while discovering an attack against the White Bishop. I wish I could play such economical moves!

White can lose the exchange, by moving the Queen along the diagonal, or can play 33. fxe3, Qxe3+; 34. Kh1, Qxd3. Black is threatening the pinned Knight, which will likely fall, leaving an easy endgame win.

Jan-01-19  AlicesKnight: Black, a P up, wins another by ....Ne3; 33.fxe3 Qxe3+ regaining the piece (d3). Not a summary execution but enough to be sure with positional advantage too; the b2 pawn looks out to dry.
Jan-01-19  whiteshark: A successful settlement

  Breunor: Stale.mate,

Stockfish likes Qxd3 (-6.9) a little more than Rxd3 (-4.2) but both win easily.
