The sixth round was played yesterday...
At board 4 Mr. Stanley played the Centre Gambit against Mr. Tullidge, who resorted to the Steinitz move of B to Kt (ch). The Warrnambool champion certainly played below his usual strength. He allowed Mr Tullidge to advance a pawn to Q R 7, the capture of which Mr. Stanley subsequently effected at the cost of allowing Mr. Tullidge to turn his king's flank. The game was then over, and Mr. Tullidge scored it as his fifth successive win.> Time - Mr. Stanley, 2 hours 12 minutes, Mr Tullidge, 1 hour 8 minutes.> It has been arranged that play shall be suspended for to-day, and that it shall be resumed at 10 a.m. on Monday.> - The Argus (Melbourne, Vic.) issue Saturday 20 October 1888> |
