Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-01-11  goodevans: Did both players miss <24 ... Qxc3> or was that a deliberate sac?
Jul-01-11  hms123: <goodevans>

<24.bxa6> was a blunder. <24....bxa6> was a terrible oversight. I guess <Breytenbach> couldn't believe that <Short> left a piece hanging.

Jul-01-11  goodevans: Quite often when both players err in succession it's a transmission error. Usually a transposition of moves.

23 bxa6 bxa6 24 Bf2 Qf6 would be a plausible move order without both players blundering.

Jul-01-11  hms123: <goodevans> I just went to the official site and downloaded the games. You might be right about the notation because of the official <notation unclear> comment in the pgn.

Here it is:

Jul-02-11  goodevans: Thanks, <hms123>. As a fan of Nigel's it's nice to think he didn't have a lucky escape, just a well-deserved victory.
