Nov-17-09  zatara: <TheMacMan: i have now lost all respect for carlsen after seeing the video of him getting angry slamming the table and walking away without even shaking kosteniuks hand, that is very childish. accept your lost like a man>

Yes , loose with dignity but don't forget that you should win with dignity as well. IMO kosteniuk should let him make his move no matter this is professional chess . Except the fact that she had the better position i see her reaction as evidence of pettiness.Every time i give an undo in internet chess, people say to me thx, but i think they r missing the point. By giving it to them it's like saying "i want to really dominate you and i won't let anything to block my way". I find wins of this kind very very unattractive . He touched the piece and blah blah blah...pffff

Nov-17-09  MaxxLange: He entered a blitz tournament. There are rules.
Nov-18-09  Doktorn: <zatara> Then I'm pretty sure Magnus has been petty on occasion also. I think he did the exact same thing in a game a while ago. I don't remember which, but I'm sure some kibitzer can enlighten us.

In any case, Magnus behaviour was certainly out of line. But he is a young man and hopefully he will reflect on his behaviour, apologize and be a better man afterwards.

Nov-18-09  Billy Vaughan: <Would Fischer lose to a 2500 at blitz at Carlsen's age?>

Not at Carlsen's age, but Kasparov vs M Bosboom, 1999

Nov-18-09  Jim Bartle: Kosteniuk should give an "undo" to Carlsen? I thought part of the purpose of blitz is to see if you can avoid blunders when you have little time. If you then excuse simple errors, what's the point?
Nov-18-09  Squares: Can someone just elucidate for me. Carlsein touched the piece (whichever one it was) and therefore under the rules is obliged to play that piece unless if his opponent states otherwise?
Nov-18-09  yoyosd: <if you don't think Kosteniuk is beautiful then you need a pair of real thick glasses! I bet the girls you pick up in a bar when you have beer goggles make you cry in the morning LOL!!>

Ha. I did (got the permanent variety now) quite well for myself! And I suppose she is OK, but I do think people bump her up a rung or three for her chess skills. Much like Danica Patrick, a solid 6.5 parading around as a 9.

Nov-18-09  parisattack: <psmith: The comments here are remarkably uniform in their sexism.>

Yes, they are. But I am somewhat surprised to see so many think she's so attractive?! Certainly a pleasant looking woman, but no beauty IMHO.

Nov-18-09  zatara: Here is the video that shows what happened http://video.russiachess.org/browse... (at 15:42).Now that i have seen it i don't think it was such a big of deal.Magnus just got disappointed and left immediately
Nov-18-09  Travis Bickle: <parisattack: <psmith: The comments here are remarkably uniform in their sexism.>

All I know is after Fischer was imprisoned in Japan when Boris Spassky made a symbolic gesture toward then President Bush to free Bobby by stating, that if Fischer is in prison for playing chess then send me there too with a chessboard. At the time Spassky had written the ex president, Fischer got word of his offer but was upset with some of Spassky's earlier comments and I heard Bobby say on Phillipine radio that he (Spassky) is a Frenemy. In other words a friend-enemy. Bobby said send me that Russian chick (referring to Koteniuk) with a chessboard instead." Long story short Bobby liked what he saw! ; P

Nov-18-09  Billy Vaughan: <Yes, they are. But I am somewhat surprised to see so many think she's so attractive?! Certainly a pleasant looking woman, but no beauty IMHO.>

I agree. As far as attractive women chessers go, I prefer, oh, Szczepkowska, Ushenina, Muzychuk, Yifan. It helps they're a little closer to my age (19).

I wonder who's the most beautiful top male player? Dominguez, maybe?

Nov-18-09  Travis Bickle: I must add that Spassky was so fond of Fischer that he visited Bobby in Iceland to smooth over hard feelings. They remained friends.
Nov-18-09  TheFocus: <Travs> I read yesterday that when Spassky visited Bobby's grave, he held back tears and said jokingly, "I wonder if the spot next to him is open?"
Nov-18-09  Travis Bickle: <TheFocus> Yes thats true and when Susan Polgar interviewed Spassky a year or so ago I remember him saying at the end of the interview that he was still in shock by Fischers death. P.S. An interesting thing Boris said about Bobby at that interview was "Bobby could be very harsh at times but on the inside he was like pure crystal", said affectionatley.

The dam video keeps freezing up! I guess I'd have to buy a russkie junkbox computer to watch that %$#@^&%
Nov-19-09  Whitehat1963: Amazing that last the last place finisher could manage to beat the tournament winner, and with black, too.

Obviously, individual blitz games are meaningless, though that is not to say a tournament result like this one is meaningless overall. Clearly, the fact that Carlsen had by far the most wins and fewest draws while playing at such speed indicates a phenomenal intuitive grasp of chess's complexities and something like instant vision. I fully expect him to become the undisputed world champion before he's 26.

Nov-19-09  jacqueslaumone: <Carlsen just made a mistake. He isn't an immortal.>

And even if he is immortal, he could still make mistakes.

Nov-19-09  OneArmedScissor: <yoyosd>
She is beautiful because she is approachable. hth
Nov-19-09  zanshin: Based on the comments found by <siamesedream> in http://www.chessblog.com/2009/11/fl... I have to conclude that the game score here is incorrect. I kept wondering why Carlsen resigned:

<siamesedream: From Alexandra Kosteniuk's blog:

<(...)Why didn't he shake your hand after the game?>

<Magnus was not happy that he made a blunder, he played 43. R3e2?? which loses a Rook (due to 43...Qxf2+), and so when he saw that he realized he mixed it up with 43. R1e2 but it was too late, and so he resigned.>>

Position after <43.R3e2??>

Nov-19-09  zanshin: <Travis Bickle: She looks beautiful to me.>

<TB> Me too!

Nov-19-09  Travis Bickle: <zanshin> Alexandra sends a belated 'Trick Or Treat' to you! ; P http://www.chessblog.com/2009/10/ha...
Nov-19-09  zanshin: <TB> Lol! She's certainly not your average chess player ;-)
Nov-19-09  TheMacMan: magnus schmagnus. he should have been respectful by shaking her hand and not behaving like a child, slamming the table and walking away
Nov-19-09  Travis Bickle: <TheMacMan> Tell that to Victor Kochnoi LOL!
