profK: Is this Matanovic's quickst loss? Pretty awful play by white.

No - his shortest loss in the database is 15 moves: A Matanovic vs A Planinc, 1975

Getting back to this game, the twin pawn thrusts of 8...e4 and 11...g5 totally destroy White's position.

Feb-24-19  Granny O Doul: This game would have been good supplemental material for an old "ABCs of Chess" Chess Life column by Larry not the grandmaster Evans back in the 70's, where he touted, if I remember right, "the Second Hungarian Variation of the Schliemann" against the Ruy. Though some referred to the feature as "the abscess of chess", it wasn't a bad use of a couple of pages, unless you were already up to the DEFs. Evans alternated months writing with Bruce Pandolfini.
