Aug-24-09  Chicago Chess Man: 13 ...Qxf6?? Oops. 14. Ne5!! 1-0
Aug-25-09  mike1: oops, yes. But only because of 15. Qxd4! 15.Qd8 is correct and .... eg. 16.Kxg2 Qxd7. 17.dxc5 Qc6+.
nothing much for both
Aug-25-09  Chicago Chess Man: You may be right, but what if after 15..Qd8 white plays 16. Nxf8 instead? Things are not comfortable for black after 16...Bxf1 17.Qxh7+ Kxf8 18.Rxf1
Aug-25-09  slomarko: 13...Qf6?? is totally absurd and shows Karpov has no idea about the theory. 13...gf6 is correct.
Aug-25-09  xqdashi: mike1, After 15....Qd8 white plays 16.Nxf8! and now if 16...Bxf1? then 17.Qxh7+ Kxf8 etc. e.g 18.dxc5 Bxc5 19.Nxf1 with threat of Qh8+ and Qxg7 or 18.Nxf1 dxc4 19.Qh8+ Ke7 20. Qxg7 etc. leave white up a pawn and Black's king exposed.
Aug-25-09  xqdashi: That's 18 Nxf1 cxd4 in the second line.
Aug-25-09  kurtrichards: Hmmm...Kramnik is too much for you. What about Kaspa or Korchnoi? Battle of Ks. Any sponsor?
Aug-25-09  Brown: <slomarko> It's not a theory issue, it's a tactical oversight issue because one is no longer sharp.
Aug-25-09  A Karpov Fan: A blunder here from Karpov, but it was the last of 7 rapid games and at his age, this is hardly unusual. At least he actually played the rapid section hmmm Mr Kasparov?
Aug-31-09  nigelsnoru: Well, Garry will have a chance to redeem himself, against none other than Tolya, in an upcoming rapid/blitz match. My bet's on Kasparov, although I think Karpov won the last K-K rapid match.
Sep-01-09  A Karpov Fan: Yeah the smart money is on Kasparov, he can still perform at 2700 + if he wants.

In fact in the last match he had winning positions in most games but failed to convert them.

I doubt lightning will strike twice for Karpov.

But it will be historic and entertaining!

ajk68: <slowmarko>: In Kramnik vs. Carlsen 13...Nxf6 is played. The eventual outcome is a draw.

gxf6 seems dangerous for black.

Oct-09-09  Brassica oleracea: ajk68, on 13. ... ♘xf6? 14. dxc5 ♖c8 15. b4 White should be able to keep the ♙c5. Unlike Karpov here, in Kramnik vs Carlsen, 2007 Black had prepared c7-c5 with 12 . ... ♖c8, on which White had responded with 13. ♘b3.
