Aug-11-09  whiteshark: Great game, unusual piece imbalance and fürst!, btw.:D
Aug-11-09  ROADDOG: From about move 50 to end of game Alekseev does a great job of fighting off the checks and keeping his pieces protected at the same time. I dont think its as easy as he made it look. Nice win for Alekseev.
Aug-11-09  Davolni: I think it's definetely going to be in his NOTABLE games very very soon!

Nice game!!! such powerful bishops and such a weak queen at the same time...!!!

good job!!!!

Jimfromprovidence: This was a fun game to review. Obviously, black miscalculated with 37…Qf8?, thinking he had a pinned piece for the taking.

Then white avoided a mate threat after 38…Qc8, (seeing …Qc1) by playing 39 Rf7.

Also, it looks like black could have played 46…Kf6 instead of 46…g5, making it much more difficult for white to secure that extra pawn that gives him the winning edge.

Aug-11-09  kurtrichards: Black's queen is helpless.

  kamalakanta: I think Black missed 28...Rxg2! 29.Kxg2 Rc4! 30.Qe1 Rxe4 and Black is winning!

kamalakanta: Of course, if 30.bxc4 Qxe4 is mate!
Aug-12-09  queener: According to ChessPro.ru round 3 report, both players agreed that black had the better chances after move 25.

After 37. .. ♕c8! 38. ♖xb5 ♗xf2 39. ♗xf2 ♕c1+ 40. ♗g1 ♙e3 white seems to be in deep trouble, as the pawns are difficult to stop.

28...Rxg2 is a nice move but after 30 bxc4 Qxe4+ in your continuation white has 31 Kf1.

I see a perpetual after 31...Qf3+ or Qd3+, but no mate.

You are right, Jim. I was looking at the game briefly, without a board, and the image of the White king in the corner became fixed in my mind.

Aug-15-09  zatara: can someone explain why is 38...Bg1 wrong??
Sep-01-09  kingsindian2006: yea interesting game from start to finish.
Jul-11-11  pulsar: <zatara> 38...Bxg1 will be answered by 39.Ng5 threatening Rh7-Bxd5 mate.

Sample line would be: 39.Ng5 Qf2 (39...Qc5 40.Rb8+ Kg7 41.Ne6, forking the King and Queen) 40.Rh7+ Kg8 41.Bxd5+ Kf8 42.Rf7+ winning back the queen, and White is a piece up.
