Jul-11-09  Ulhumbrus: 38...Qf6 clears the square g7 for the use of Black's King
Jul-11-09  OneArmedScissor: <kamalakanta>
...Qf4+, Kh1 c2!
Jul-11-09  Marmot PFL: <kamalakanta> No forced win there i guess, but he keeps a pawn more with a good position.

Excellent! Not bad for a one-armed scissor!

kamalakanta: The simple 38...b3 might also be enough.
Jul-11-09  OneArmedScissor: I am the knife you were always speaking of

An Englishman: Good Evening: From a practical standpoint, White's 38th has two pluses: it poses lots of threats, and Black has a huge number of possible defenses. Not a bad resource when you're down in both time and material. Also, note how the position has become simplified, yet not simpler. It's still possible for Black to lose this game.
Jul-11-09  Marmot PFL: < ...Qf4+, Kh1 c2!> Only problem there is Qxc2 Qxe3 Qxg6+ 1-0
Jul-11-09  OneArmedScissor: Yeah... that's why in that Rybka analysis it says to play Kg7 first ;)
Jul-11-09  PinnedPiece: Do you think Kramnik is considering 38...Qb7 seriously?

  kamalakanta: so, does 38...b3 win?
Jul-11-09  OneArmedScissor: Kramnik has lots of time for 3 moves.
No need to rush anything at this point
Jul-11-09  dotsamoht: I don't know what I would do here. Tough with the heavy pieces... Find the magic, Vlad!

tpstar: <chessgames.com> Thanks for the live broadcast. =)

Great game! And now down to a thrilling major piece endgame.

Kramnik is very wise to use his extra time here, putting even more pressure on Jakovenko who might blitz out a mistake right before the time control.

Jul-11-09  dotsamoht: All Black's pawns are weak... a5, c6 and b4 are all immediately hit... dang...
Jul-11-09  dotsamoht: ...Qb7 perhaps?

  kamalakanta: Deep Shredder likes 38...Qf8 the best, continuing 39.e7 Qf1+ 40.Kh2 Qf4+ 41.Kh1 Kh7 42.axb4 axb4 43.Re1 Qg3 44. Re6 b3 45.Re3 Qb8 46.Qc4 c5 -.94
Jul-11-09  Bondsamir: Kramnik knows exactly what to move but he is putting DJ in time trouble.
Jul-11-09  dotsamoht: Then the Black King is weak, however... i dunno.

kamalakanta: So Naidistch-Carlsen 1/2. how is the third game going?
Jul-11-09  Ulhumbrus: <kamalakanta: so, does 38...b3 win?> It does possibly after 38 Qxc3 Qxc3 39 Rxc3 a4! and Black has a protected passed pawn on the sixth rank, and if White goes after its defender, the a4 pawn, Black can place his Rook on the b file behind the passed b3 pawn and threaten to advance the b pawn
