Jul-06-11  randyjohnson: LIFE MASTER Another lower quality game - here neither player was a master.

It's very superficial say this sort of thing.

Pierluigi Becci was a very talented Master and passed away two years ago, in this game he was 68 years old. Bocchicchio also is a good player, he win agaist Gm Efimov (also Becci win against Efimov) and Bocchicchio draw also agaist a very young Malachov. This game is not perfect of course but i believe is a very interesting and good game.

First of all, I apologize if I offended you - however, NEITHER play is a master. (Solid fact! Can't argue with the numbers!!!)

Now ... TRY to dig where I am coming from. A few _____'s (nothing I could say here would be positive, so - go ahead, use your imagination to fill in the blanks) said something to the effect: "The standards here" (at this website) " are VERY high, normally BOTH players are masters. A.J., you are ruining this site and spoiling/polluting the integrity of the DB by submitting your games." (my empahsis)

In the end, I have found this to be completely false. Now - every time I see a game that is "SUB-STANDARD" ... ... ... I feel compelled to point that out. (If that bothers you too much ... feel free to place me on ignore, you won't hurt my feelings in the slightest.)

Jul-06-11  stst: <Today is my last day of membership with this site>. I've been trying to determine whether to continue it or not. I enjoy having the ability to post comments or as.....

===> Is this a free (except those who are willing pay) mental exercise everyday?

Find it good, just mental, no board nor pieces necessary - and enjoy reading others' comments/lectures/reports/new games, etc etc....

In today's tough environment, could hardly ask for more.....

You don't like me giving you advice, so please consider this to be a request.

As you say, there is an issue on this website about the quality of games and the use of the master title. It's an argument that has been running for some time and shows no sign of being resolved through force of argument or shouting.

And frankly the argument has become more than a little boring and tiresome.

Because when one side of the argument raises it, the other side "feels compelled" to respond. And off we go again. And we are still no closer to an end of the argument.

So today you felt compelled to raise it. And <thefocus> felt compelled to reply in sarcastic mode. And I, and I suspect many others, felt my spirits drop because we have been here far too many times before.

IMHO, the answer is most definitely NOT that all of us who are fed up with this tired argument should put you and <theFocus> on ignore. That's a very blunt instrument to try to solve this problem.

So my request to you - definitely not advice - is to stop raising this. You have made your point. More than once. We have heard you. Enough. Let it go.

<theFocus> And I will make the same request to you. Let it go. When we are trying end a flame war these sarcastic little comments don't help anyone.

Jul-07-11  LIFE Master AJ: <Once> You are free to do what you like, I guess, just as I am free to blthely ignore it.
Jul-07-11  LIFE Master AJ: You lost my confidence - as ANYTHING but an interesting writer ... (once could say jester, or even clown) - a long time ago.
Jul-07-11  LIFE Master AJ: The CORRECT response ... if someone (repeatedly) bothers you ... is to simply tune them out, or (in severe cases); use the "ignore" feature.

Apparently - neither you or the trolls know how to do either one.

Jul-07-11  LIFE Master AJ: And - as there seemed to be a virtual chorus of individuals - all saying how that all the games here were of such a high level, and how I was the ONLY one who was violating this policy ...

I will point out these sub-standard games whenever I see them.

Once: Haven't you noticed something here?

When you say certain things, your critics attack you. When you don't say those things, all is quiet and well. They have nothing to attack.

And when the neutrals start saying that it's time to stop this bickering, maybe it's time to listen.

Sticking your fingers in your ears and singing "la-la-la I can't hear you" - aka the ignore function - is very rarely the correct response to anything.

Let's not fill this page with further off topic stuff. Let's have some respect for those who don't want to get involved in this old old debate. If you want to discuss further, suggest we switch to my forum or yours.

Jul-07-11  LIFE Master AJ: Not interested. (And I already told you that as well.)

Once: Then please stop filling these pages with this bickering. The admins have said that they tolerated it whilst it was confined to pages that not many people went to.

But no-one wants this to spread to POTD.

Enough.

Jul-07-11  randyjohnson: LifeMaster i don't want to be litigious or something like these. The level of play of this game probably is not very high but for sure PierluigiBecci was a Master in the most high way of intend this word. Becci was famous for be a friend of Canal a very old chessplayer who was friend of Einstein and Lasker. Becci always say a story about what Canal say to Einstein

“Eppure mi sembra che noi due ci siamo già conosciuti da qualche parte” dice uno dei due. “Pare anche a me risponde l’altro”
“E’ mai stato a Parigi?”
“No”
“E neppure io”
“Allora si vede che saranno stati altri due”

I hope you can translate well.. cause i don't want to lose the homour in my very bad English

Jul-07-11  randyjohnson: And... about be a Master... i believe that if you aren't Kornchoy at 68 yoour level of play is going to decrease... but Becci was a Master... intend Master also with the italian title "Maestro". http://www.foonews.info/it-hobby-sc...

By the way i believe with you LifeMaster AJ that not every games are superhigh quality ecc ecc... just i believe that in a lot of situation (ya... MIke the situation(i am very sad that of this citation) people can be very superficial in theri evaluation. But also... sometimes i feel like the more superficial evalution is also the more correct so maybe i am wrong cause for me is not a neutral game and i have a lot of human respect for Beggi, and this maybe is not correlate of level of chess quality. Maybe you are right...

Jul-07-11  Creg: <Life Master AJ> Why don't you try following your own advice, as posted on your very own profile...

<Please note: This forum is only for chess-related topics. I definitely don't want to see any arguments that stray into other areas (like politics, religion, etc.) ... such posts will be deleted! [I run a nice clean, positive forum. Any negative posts, bad words, (etc.) is a guarantee that your post will be removed - persons who repeatedly violate this rule will definitely be put on my "ignore" list. This is MY forum ... I pay for the privilege of a Premium Membership! Therefore I will remove ANY post that I deem as negative, bashing, etc. And I feel that I do not have to explain to anyone why I removed a particular comment! Thanks!!! - aj]>

You stress that there should be no negative posts on your forum, yet you have no problem expressing negativity about others games simply because you feel they are sub standard?! If you deplore negativity on your own forum, and delete such posts accordingly, then you should show common decency on all other forums.

Jul-07-11  TheFocus: <Once> Maybe you should stop going batshit every time someone makes a remark you feel is out of line.

There was a lot of validity to what I said.

I didn't see you jumping on <AJ> when he insulted me twice. Where were you then?

So keep your opinions to yourself. If you don't want to hear the occasional outburst, then turn off your hearing aid.

People are actually tired of your school monitor attitude, and having to tiptoe around on eggshells.

Jul-07-11  TheFocus: <Once> <So today you felt compelled to raise it. And <thefocus> felt compelled to reply in sarcastic mode. And I, and I suspect many others, felt my spirits drop because we have been here far too many times before.>

<AJ> gave his opinion. I gave mine. We ARE allowed to express ourselves without anyone clucking their tongue at us like a Mother Hen. I have buried two grandmothers. I don't need a substitute Granny.

<IMHO, the answer is most definitely NOT that all of us who are fed up with this tired argument should put you and <theFocus> on ignore. That's a very blunt instrument to try to solve this problem.>

You over-exaggerate here, making a mountain out of a molehill. You act as if <AJ> and I are deliberately stalking each other. I rarely read his posts, and if I feel like commenting, jokingly, seriously or sarcastically, it is NONE of your business.

<So my request to you - definitely not advice - is to stop raising this. You have made your point. More than once. We have heard you. Enough. Let it go.>

Stop harassing <AJ>. Do you think your little grandfatherly advice is helping here? <AJ> has said he is not interested in your advice.

<theFocus> <And I will make the same request to you. Let it go. When we are trying end a flame war these sarcastic little comments don't help anyone.>

And stop harassing <TheFocus> with your petty admonishments. Me and <AJ> might pass each other once a week in the hallways of <CG> and we don't always bump shoulders when we meet.

Once: So let me see if I've got this right? First you tell me that I'm not jumping on AJ, then you tell me I should stop harassing him. That's it, right?

I love it! You couldn't make this stuff up.

It's just a shame that AJ has you on ignore. Otherwise he might be impressed how much you are standing up for him.

Keep up the good work.

Jul-07-11  LIFE Master AJ: <Creg> I am TRYING to make a point ...

when the overall "crowd" that criticized me for my "sub-standard" games concedes the point, then I will stop pointing this out.

Until then, its just a reminder that not ALL the games on this website are (at least) "2200 vs. 2200" as the boo-birds claimed.

Jul-07-11  TheFocus: <Once> I can see how this is becoming an ego-trip for you.

I suggest a nice weekend in the country.

But, your posts are beginning to border on petty harassment.

If you were to put me and <AJ> on Ignore, all your worries would be over.

<Keep up the good work.>

Nice to see that I am not the only sarcastic one here.

Jul-07-11  LIFE Master AJ: A very small thing, really ...

I am not the one turning this into a federal case.

Jul-07-11  TheFocus: <Once>< So let me see if I've got this right? First you tell me that I'm not jumping on AJ, then you tell me I should stop harassing him. That's it, right?>

Don't read that too fast. I know that you have jumped on him about some of his posts and attacks, but all was quiet from your end when he insulted me. I think you even reproved me instead.

<It's just a shame that AJ has you on ignore. Otherwise he might be impressed how much you are standing up for him.>

You seriously think <AJ> doesn't read my posts? He has said that he does.

That, or someone will e-mail him about it.

But don't answer here. This page doesn't need any more of my posts, or yours either, unless they pertain to chess.

Jul-07-11  solskytz: I'm definitely on Once's side here - and I do like your interventions and your good will. There's probably a little bit too much 'litigation' here that offends some people's sense of good taste - myself included.
