Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-25-23  Brenin: 35 Qxh5 demands to be played. If 35 ...gxh5 then 36 Bxf4 (not 36 Rxg7 Rg4 with advantage to Black) Qd7 37 Bh6 Qg4 38 Rxg4 hxg4 39 Bxg7+ Kxg7 40 Rxg4+ with B for P, a winnable endgame.

In the game line 35 ... Rxe4 36 Bh6, Black might have done better with 36 ... Qe8 37 Bxe4 Qxe4 38 Bxg7+ Kxg7 39 Qe2, when he has 3P for the R, still probably losing.

Nov-25-23  mel gibson: I saw the text ply in under 20 seconds.

Stockfish 16 says:

32. Qxh5

(32. Qxh5 (Qh3xh5 Rf4-f6 Qh5-h3 Rb8-f8 Rg2xg6 Rf6xg6 Rg1xg6 Qb5-f1+ Qh3xf1 Rf8xf1+ Rg6-g1 Rf1xg1+ Kh1xg1 Bg7-f8 Bd2-f4 Kh8-g7 Kg1-f1 Kg7-f6 ) +5.58/54 729)

score for White +5.58 depth 54.

Nov-25-23  Mayankk: I saw the 32 Qxh5 gxh5 33 Bxf4 Qd7 idea but then I thought game should go on as 34 Rxg7+ Qxg7 35 Rxg7 Kxg7 36 Kg2.

White should be able to pick the weak Black pawns while also guarding its own pawns in a R vs 2B game. But there may not be an easy forced win.

Only later did I realise that 35 Bh6 is far superior to an immediate 35 Rxg7 since the Bishop is pinned by the deadly 36 Rg8+ Rxg8 37 Rxg8# mate threat. And now White wins easily by picking off an additional Bishop.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Easy enough puzzle, but quite an interesting final position--all six Queens and Rooks, zero minor pieces, only three pawns. That can't happen too often, can it?

Nov-25-23  Refused: 32.Qxh5 is the obvious first choice white has to check.

Main line is:

a) 32...gxh5. 33.Bxf4 Rb7 34.Bh6 (probably simpler than 34.Bxb7 Qxb7 35.Rxg7 Qxe4+) +- The main issue is that the Bishop can't move away from g7 as white is threatening mate on g8

b) 32...Re4 and once again 33.Bh6!! is putting black in a world of pain. And I couldn't find any good move to continue this game for black at this point.

Nov-25-23  sfm: Difficult. First move easy to guess, but to see all the points and quiet moves, nope.
