Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-11-23  Brenin: Reculer pour mieux sauter. I didn't see this deadly retreat Qg6, Qh7, rearranging Black's heavy artillery. Playing 29 bxc6 suggests that White didn't understand what was happening on the h-file. At the end, if 32 Nxe3 then 32 ... Rh1+ 33 Kf2 Qh2+ 34 Ng2 Qxg2+ 35 Ke3 (Kxg2 R8h2 mate) Qf3+ 36 Kd2 R8h2 mate, or 32 Rxe3 Qc2 with mate by Rh1 in a few moves.
Nov-11-23  mel gibson: Very difficult. I didn't get the right answer.

Stockfish 16 says:

28. .. Qg6

(28. .. Qg6 (Qh5-g6 Nb6-c8 Qg6-h7 Nc8-d6+ Kf7-f6 Nd6xe4+ f5xe4 Rd3-d1 Nc6xd4 Kg1-f2 Nd4-f3 Kf2-e3 Rh8-d8 Rd1-d4 Qh7-e7 Qg2-b2 Qe7xc5 Rb1-c1 Qc5xd4+ Qb2xd4+ Nf3xd4 Ke3xd4 Rh6-h1 Rc1-b1 Rd8-c8 Nf1-d2 Rh1-h2 Rb1-b2 e6-e5+ f4xe5+ Kf6-e6 Kd4-e3 Rc8-c3+ Ke3-f4 Rh2-f2+ Kf4xg4 e4-e3 Kg4-g5 e3xd2 g3-g4 Rc3xa3 b5-b6 Ke6xe5 Rb2-b1 Ke5-e4 Kg5-h6 Ke4-d3 g4-g5 d5-d4 g5-g6 Rf2-g2 Rb1-f1 Kd3-e2) +8.58/43 1275)

score for Black +8.58 depth 43.

Nov-12-23  Allderdice83: GM Ben Feingold's rule: Always retreat. It's very difficult to see that Black has time for such a maneuver. 31 ... e3 is a pretty finish (of course 32. Rxe3 Qxb1, and if not, say, 32. c7 Rh1+ 33. Kg2 Qh3#).

  chrisowen: Tod ven pack brig q Qg6 get arrive it's aob job affable it's pan cc back with it's eo Qg6 co;
Nov-13-23  Mayankk: Elegant solution. I kept trying to make 28 ... Qh1+ 29 Qxh1 Rxh1+ 30 Kg2 work. Of course it doesn't.

With hindsight it all makes sense. Rh1+ is much superior to Qh1+ and so we rearrange the order of our QRR battery to RQR battery.

The quiet coup de grace 31 ... e3 was also brilliant. But White was probably already lost by then.

Nov-13-23  sfm: The silent rearrangement. Beautiful in its simplicity! Would have loved to find it.

  al wazir: 29. Re3. If now 29...Qh7, then 30. Rxe4 dxe4 29. 31. bxc6 bxc6. Black has ♖+♙ vs. ♘+♘.

  perfidious: Once one realises the queen is the wrong piece to have in the lead and shifts Her Majesty, this is not difficult, and Black need not count the cost; he can play 28....Qg6, intending ....Qh7 next, with devastating consequences.
