Jan-23-09  felix90: 69.Ra8! then when the pawn will be on d7 Rg8+ then a8=Q but i thought he he didn't have lot of time...
Jan-23-09  euripides: <felix> Nice idea, but I think after 69.Ra8 Black should play Kg7 or h7 then put the queen on a1 and push the d pawn.
Oct-24-16  Grbasowski: Why not 22. Bxc8???
Oct-26-16  Christoforus Polacco: @ Grbasowski.
I suppose that Karjakin was afraid of complications after weakness 'f3" square. For example : 22.B:c8 N:g2 23.K:g2 Q:c8 24.Qg3 Ne6 25.Be3 Ng5 with threat : 26...Nf3 and 27... Bh5. I think so.
Oct-26-16  Christoforus Polacco: After 51.Rb7 is draw by perpetual chess & after 56.Rf7 is draw again. It looks like Karjakin needed to win but Carslen required only half point....

<eurypides> Rather black queen should stay on 'g7' or 'e7' square - on 'a1' not too long. For example : 69.Ra8! Qe5+ 70.Kh1 Qa1+ 71.Kh2 Kg7 72.Ra7+ Kf6 73.Ra8 Qe5+ 74.Kh1 Qe7! 75.a7 d4 and now black rook has no spite check on 'f8'.

Oct-27-16  Christoforus Polacco: ERRATUM. White rook, off course. But anyway is indeed enough: 69.Ra8! Qe5+ 70.Kh1 Qa1+ 71.Kh2 d4 72.a7 Kg7!

yiotta: Typical of Carlsen's patient style--a poke here, a jab there, constantly setting problems, and surprise!
