Domdaniel: A not-quite-sound piece sac has the interesting effect of locking the black DSB out of play on h8. Out of play, that is, to anyone but Suttles -- after a painfully protracted series of exchanges, said Bish is the last man standing.

I'm surprised <mack> hasn't said something about this proto-Rat, this first clash of titans. And of course those ratings are ridiculous for 1964.

IMlday: I was 15, about 1950 rating and mighty impressed watching Suttles' speed chess. His lines like 1.e4 e5 2.f4 ef 3.Qf3 and 1.e4 c5 2.Nc3 Nc6 3.g4 and 1.any g6 entered my repertoire as a result. In this game my 19.h4?! can be improved by 19.Qd3 first. It looks like good comp for the pawn.
Jan-05-10  TechN9ne: IMlday,

do you have any more examples of some things suttles would play during blitz? mostly KIA against caro kahn and french? what about d6 sicilians?

IMlday: Against French or Caro-Kann it was always 3.e5 which theory then considered harmless. All Sicilians were Closed.
