34 ♖h1-h7+! is a textbook example of GM Danny King calls an <<<"h-file distraction">>> in one of his Power Play videos.

The goal of this type of rook sacrifice is to <DEFLECT> the enemy king from defending a crucial square in his proximity so that the attacking queen may occupy that square and make lethal mating threats. Here the Black g7-king has been <DEFLECTED> from <DEFENDING> the f7-square, with fatal consequences. Note that the rooks are almost always connected or can be connected quickly so that the other can exploit the sacrifice of its mate.

May-17-08  ezmerin: Hah, white will snare an exchange in the next move by 42. Qh6+ Kf7 43. Be6+ and then the pawn g6 shall fall as well. And if 41...Rh8 42. Rxh8 Kxh8 43. Qf6+ and 44. Qxd6 does the trick. It's amusing how Black Queen and Knight are driven back from the decisive action. By all means a "Deflection Game".
