Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-03-07  suenteus po 147: I like how how Ivanchuk essentially exchanges his way to victory, each time either picking up a pawn or more space along the way.

Mateo: Ivanchuk prepared something new, deviating from Arkell-Karjakin, 2003, draw with 11...Bg4!?.

The beginning of White's problems was 14.Bxf3?! giving up the Bishop pair after the nice 14...Bxe5!. Thus, better should be 14.Qxf3.

29.Rc2? is an obvious blunder losing a pawn. 29.g4 was better.

Oct-04-07  Andrew Chapman: Why did White resign? Is it because black can win another pawn after Qc3+?
Oct-07-07  syracrophy: <Andrew Chapman> After 40...♕c3+, white has two options. 41.♔f4 is met by 41...♖h3 and the threat 42...♕f6+ forces 42.♖g3 ♖xg3 and the exchange of the pieces. And if 41.♔e2 ♖h1 wins by the threat 42...♖e1#

The point is that after the exchange of all the pieces, black has an easy won endgame

GIAaron: I can't explain why I played 14 Bxf3? - especially as I saw what was coming. At least I had the chance to improve with 14 Qxf3 in the last round of the British Championship 2008 v Gawain.

Of course White can always choose 11 Nxe5 with a more settled position.
